🎓 A+ news for #GreenvilleSC! Greenville County Schools is one of the first school districts in South Carolina to join the 90-90-90 Club, meeting three key benchmarks: a 90% graduation rate, 90% college or career readiness and Excellent, Good or Average report cards for every school.

The milestone reflects the district’s Graduation Plus initiative, which helps students graduate with more than a diploma, earning college credit and/or industry certifications. 👏

“Our focus is not simply on helping students earn a diploma, but on ensuring they leave Greenville County Schools prepared with the knowledge, skills, and experiences to succeed in college, career, military service, and life,” said GCS Superintendent Dr. Burke Royster.

These opportunities are helping students turn classroom learning into a strong foundation for their futures. 📚 by @greenvillescedc

A broken refrigerator. Fifty years ago.⚡️Sparked an idea for a #GreenvilleSC entrepreneur. 💡

👋🏽 Meet Pedro Escobar, founder of @susu.lend, a fintech company creating new pathways to access funds and build credit.

Escobar’s family immigrated to the U.S. from Honduras in the late 1970s. Despite hard work and a steady job, traditional lenders were unable to help with refrigerator repair costs.

With few options left, Escobar’s father turned to his community. By organizing a susu, a generations-old savings practice in which members pool money and take turns receiving the funds, he raised enough for a replacement.

The experience stayed with Escobar. In 2021, he found a way to bring a susu into the digital age. 🧑🏾‍💻💚 #HispanicHeritageMonth taken in Greenville, South Carolina by @greenvillescedc

His mother’s “Ph.D. in life” opened doors for Julio Hernandez. Now, he’s helping open doors for the next generation through education. 📚

As assistant to the president for community outreach and engagement at @clemsonuniversity, Hernandez works to connect people and build opportunities. He’s also an active leader in Greenville’s Hispanic community, inspired by the advice his mother gave him growing up. Her formal education ended in the fourth grade, but the lessons she taught him shaped the path he would take.

“I’ve definitely seen the Hispanic community grow in so many different ways,” Hernandez said. He’s seen that growth firsthand through the increasing number of Hispanic and Latino students pursuing higher education and the continued growth of Hispanic-owned businesses.

Images of the Falls Park Conference District.👏🏽🎨 New watercolor conceptual drawings showcase a “uniquely Greenville” conference center with an adjacent hotel and surrounding mixed-use buildings.

“Designed as an adaptive space for conference-goers and residents alike, the project will create a seamless connection to Falls Park, expand public green space and strengthen the connection between downtown and one of Greenville’s most cherished natural assets,” said Mayor Knox White.

“Our vision is shaped by the idea that great design should welcome people in. Curved glass, softened edges and natural materials create a sense of movement and connection, while thoughtfully designed gateways and gathering spaces invite people into the park,” said City Manager Shannon Lavrin.

🌇🌳 Located adjacent to Falls Park, the Conference Center will include a 1250 space parking garage to replace existing surface lots and add nearly an acre of green space.

On Oct. 15, the Design Review Board will consider the site plans, height, scale and connectivity, to ensure the project aligns with #GreenvilleSC’s vision for a vibrant, accessible downtown.

Annexing and rezoning nearly 13 acres at the historic Poe Mill site.
Greenville City Council gave initial approval to an ordinance that would bring the property into city limits and support new community and neighborhood uses.

The annexation aligns with the City’s GVL2040 Comprehensive Plan goals: increasing population, affordable housing, transportation and mobility, open space and economic development.

Greenville’s history is closely linked to textile manufacturing. Former mills, including Monaghan, Brandon, and Mills Mill, have been annexed and redeveloped over the past two decades, supporting neighborhood revitalization, historic preservation, and population growth.

A second and final reading is scheduled for Oct. 12. by @greenvillescedc

👋🏽 Say goodbye to the concrete jungle. 👷🏽🚧 Construction on the Bolden Street District along Laurens Road is ready to begin.

City leaders joined Verdae Development Inc. (VDI) and the Hollingsworth Funds on the site of the former Sam's Club parking lot to celebrate the 92-acre multi-use project between Haywood Road and Verdae Boulevard. Rather than dig dirt, they smashed slabs! ⚒️

"The vision for Bolden Street aligns closely with the principles of GVL2040, Greenville’s comprehensive plan — particularly its emphasis on thoughtful growth, mixed-use development, connectivity and creating complete, walkable communities," said District 4 Councilman Wil Brasington.

@boldenstreetdistrict will include three neighborhoods, shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, grocery options and medical and professional office spaces.

"That's the fun of it. It's a blank canvas," said Dan Klausner, CEO of VDI, "We can listen to the community, bring all new things."

🏃🏾‍♀️🌳🚴🏽‍♂️ Dedicated pedestrian and bicycle pathways, pocket parks, and direct integration with the Swamp Rabbit Trail are also planned. "This is oceanfront property," Klausner said of the trail access. taken in Greenville, South Carolina by @greenvillescedc
