At 14, Johnny of Spiver Canada was already on a job site in Italy.
He started as a laborer carrying mortar, blocks and bricks for an old school builder who took a house from the foundations all the way to the finished interior. That builder put a trowel in his hand. Johnny learned to plumb walls with mortar points, fill them with a lime plaster made with live lime, and pull it flat with a straight edge.
The lesson he still carries: the value of starting something and finishing it yourself.
