How can we better support the professionals who spend their days supporting others?
A new article in the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research explores that question through a preliminary evaluation of the Group Resource Enhancement Protocol (G-REP), an EMDR-informed group intervention designed to strengthen coping resources.
Researchers Joanne L. B. Porter, Jemma Sikorski and Abbey Nicholas examined G-REP's feasibility, acceptability and preliminary outcomes among staff in a UK community learning disability team.
The evaluation found encouraging patterns in self-reported resilience and secondary traumatic stress over three months, along with positive participant feedback. Improvements in burnout were not sustained.
While the small, single-site evaluation cannot establish effectiveness, it offers an early look at how EMDR-informed resource-building approaches might contribute to healthcare staff wellbeing—and where further research is needed.
