12 hours agoOh my gosh what?! Wow, THANK YOU so so much, to be mentioned by you, in a post about Jane, alongside the one and only @enortonhistory I am beyond honored 🙏🙏 I love her for this card! I was wondering where you would put her! I especially love the balance, management, and accommodation aspect 🔥 The Pilgrimage of Grace was considered by many to be the most turbulent time in Henry’s reign, and she was his queen through all of that INTENSITY, and that alone deserves more credit I think. This woman handled A LOT in a position she was NOT raised to be in, and she took it seriously and did work in a short and stressful reign. Henry liked emboldened, passionate women… he just did. He absolutely saw a fire in her… and I think other people did too. I think if she had a little more time, she would have shown the world what a FORCE she was 👑🐦🔥 “Dangerous” Jane Seymour, I love this! I really really love the artwork too, LOVE her dress, she would approve! Thank you again for including me in this! 🥹🙏
18 hours agoSaw the short doc on history hit from @enortonhistory about Jane - very interesting to hear there was more to her than met the eye.
18 hours agoI think she was playing the game, and took it straight out of Anne’s playbook! (no shade)
18 hours agoI think a bit of both! She seems quieter/gentler than the wives who came before her, but she had goals and strengths of her own!
18 hours agoTo answer your question, no. It is a veneer based on her perceived contrast to Anne Boleyn. I think Jane was a Virgo woman who had a good deal of inner strength and mental acumen but a more (relatively) modest aura and appearance. People often underestimate the Virgo energy. And we are finding this out now with Elizabeth Norton’s book on her. A good instance of the Virgo sleight of hand comes from Chapuys, who first reported Jane had not much wit or looks and later, after he got to know her, confessed that she was much more a woman of substance than he had thought. The demeanor may be more humble but the inner being is a rock.
