One of the last finishing touches for the Vanquish. New sill plates!

The originals were really worse for wear. At some point, someone had attacked the driver door's plate with a sharp point in an attempt to, presumably, scratch away the the black infill ink. Unfortunately, the scratches were deep enough to mean that re-inking the surface and then brushing back was not really an option.

Aston Martin new old stock came to the rescue. Still with their blue protective film, it was a pleasure to fit these. The scews were an off size/head, so I wire wooled the heads back and ensured each crosshead was axis aligned 🤓

Now, when I open the doors, I see a perfect sill. Happy days!

I did exactly the same with my Vanquish SDP and was then sad enough to enter it in multiple concours from about 2017 to 2021 winning several. I’m over that phase now and doing historic racing, but sounds like you may be getting the concours bug 🐜

I'm OCD too, that will bug me each time I open the door 🙌

Can a machinist shop make one? Laser cut for precision.

Night & day difference! Being on the other side of the pond, and not finding any available at the time, I removed the old paint with a pick tool, then with a small brush, allowed black paint to just flow into all the lettering, not worrying about the excess. After the paint cured, I took a razor blade to remove the excess black paint on the sill plate, followed up by steel wool to touch up that perfect brushed finish. I’ve continued trying to buy other fun enthusiast cars, but V12 Vanquish has truly spoiled me, and I can’t help but compare everything to it. Perhaps with an extra digit or two added to my total shopping budget I could find a car worthy to compete… but even then, I would probably just miss driving classic vanquish.
