College football as generations knew and loved it is officially fading away. The College Football Playoff is finalizing an expansion deal with ESPN to grow the postseason field to a staggering 24 teams starting in 2027. What used to be a regular season where every Saturday felt like a playoff game is transforming into "Diet NFL" — a bloated bracket designed for TV inventory.

But if head coaches and athletic directors think a 24-team field provides job security, they're in for a rude awakening. Expansion doesn't eliminate hot seats — it just shifts the sliding scale of expectations. Missing a 24-team field will be an automatic fireable offense, and getting knocked out in Round 1 by a 3-loss team will get coaches run out of town even faster.

Nope. I have already found myself watching less college football over the last five or so years. Used to not leave the couch on Saturday and now it’s basically watching State play until they piss me off and I turn the tv off and do something else. The game isn’t what it used to be and the killing off of rivalries and the rosters constantly turning over has killed the vibe. That, and all anyone wants to talk about now is money and all of the conferences imploding in 2030. That shit is tiresome.

September viewership is down 11% over last year. ESPN already subs out two games to another network in the 12 team era because they know they are ratings dogs. In the 4 team era the #4 seed was 2-8 with 4 blowout losses. So I am not convinced “you’re going to watch” is a predictive statement.

“You’ll watch anyways” is such a terrible mindset to have. As if that excuses anything that’s been happening to CFB 💀
