College football as generations knew and loved it is officially fading away. The College Football Playoff is finalizing an expansion deal with ESPN to grow the postseason field to a staggering 24 teams starting in 2027. What used to be a regular season where every Saturday felt like a playoff game is transforming into "Diet NFL" — a bloated bracket designed for TV inventory.

But if head coaches and athletic directors think a 24-team field provides job security, they're in for a rude awakening. Expansion doesn't eliminate hot seats — it just shifts the sliding scale of expectations. Missing a 24-team field will be an automatic fireable offense, and getting knocked out in Round 1 by a 3-loss team will get coaches run out of town even faster. by @ogtrianglemedia

In what was Alex Ovechkin's final scheduled appearance in Raleigh—the building where he was drafted 1st overall back in 2004 — Andrei Svechnikov completely took over. Svech put up a 2-goal, 1-assist performance, including the game-winning goal on the power play, to power Carolina to a 4-2 win over Washington. Meanwhile, Mark Jankowski continued his red-hot scoring streak to keep the bottom six humming.

But the victory leaves major questions: with captain Jordan Staal already out long-term, forward Taylor Hall exited Tuesday's game with an injury. Can Rod Brind'Amour's system and roster depth weather the storm just like they did during last year's Cup run? by @ogtrianglemedia

The NC State burnerverse and deep-pocket boosters are officially having Philip Rivers fever dreams. But if Wolfpack decision-makers actually wanted to make it happen, how would it work?

With his son Gunner Rivers committed to NC State, the dots are easy to connect on paper. Do you pull a Deion Sanders and hand him the head coaching keys straight out of high school? Or do you bring him in as an Offensive Coordinator first to learn the administrative ropes under a veteran staff? Rivers has one of the greatest football minds in ACC history, but going from high school sidelines in Alabama to managing a multi-million-dollar NIL roster in Raleigh is a completely different monster.

Wolfpack Nation: Would you hire Philip Rivers as NC State's next head coach TODAY, or is that insane? Drop your takes below! 👇 by @ogtrianglemedia

Bill Belichick brought back a classic phrase with a Chapel Hill twist: "Let's get ready for Duke."

Fresh off a 21-17 road upset over No. 25 Pittsburgh, the Tar Heels are riding real momentum. But as Joe Giglio pointed out, that confidence didn't just appear in Acrisure Stadium — it started during the fourth quarter against Notre Dame, where the offense finally clicked late. When Pitt opened the door with a late lead, Billy Edwards Jr. hooked up with Shamar Easter for a clutch 75-yard TD to steal the win. Now, UNC heads to Durham for the Victory Bell against a 4-1 Duke team coming off a close loss to Georgia Tech. It kicks off a stretch of coin-toss ACC games with bowl eligibility squarely on the line. by @ogtrianglemedia

The Hurricanes just took another heavy hit, but if any room in the NHL knows how to handle adversity, it's Rod Brind'Amour's squad. Captain Jordan Staal is expected to miss 1-2 months after suffering a partially torn calf during pregame warmups in Philadelphia. For a 38-year-old workhorse who has been durable his entire career, this marks his most significant layoff since a 2018 concussion.

With Staal and Seth Jarvis both sidelined, the Canes face a major test in matchup management and center depth. But we saw this exact same story play out last season: Carolina navigated injury stretches, built roster resilience, and ultimately lifted the Stanley Cup. by @ogtrianglemedia

Fourteen years into Dave Doeren's tenure at NC State, getting blown out 38-14 at home by Wake Forest isn't just a tough loss — it's an indictment. NC State has the fan base, the enrollment, and the resources. They should be comfortably ahead of smaller, private schools like Wake Forest and Duke. But the head-to-head records under Doeren tell a completely different story.

With Duke coming up on the schedule as well, the Wolfpack can't afford to get leapfrogged again. Fans aren't just restless over one bad week — they're exhausted by a program that feels completely stuck in neutral while the rest of Tobacco Road evolves. by @ogtrianglemedia

When Wake Forest walked into Carter-Finley Stadium and handed NC State a 38-14 beatdown, Joe Giglio took the OG Sports Phone straight to the fans. Live in the RV lot, one hyped-up Demon Deacons fan stepped up to the mic and delivered a message not just to Wolfpack fans — but to UNC and Duke fans, too. This is what the "Big Four-tex" is all about: raw, unfiltered rivalries and postgame petty energy.
