The Kennedy family is one of America’s most famous political dynasties, but its history has been marked by extraordinary tragedy. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. died at 29 during a secret military mission in 1944, while his sister Kathleen was killed in a plane crash at 28. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas in 1963 at the age of 46, followed by his brother Robert F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in Los Angeles in 1968 at 42.

The heartbreak extended to younger generations. John and Jacqueline Kennedy lost their daughter Arabella, who was stillborn in 1956, and their premature son Patrick, who died just two days after birth in 1963. Robert Kennedy’s sons David and Michael died at 28 and 39 from a drug overdose and a skiing accident. In 1999, John F. Kennedy Jr. died at 38 when the aircraft he was piloting crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, also killing his wife and sister in law.

These repeated losses gave rise to the expression “Kennedy curse,” a popular belief that the family was somehow destined to experience misfortune. Although there is no evidence of an actual curse, the remarkable number of premature deaths, assassinations and accidents has left a lasting impression on American history. Behind the family’s wealth, influence and political achievements lies a deeply personal history of grief spanning generations. 🕊️🖤
