#Day 17: Contraption

The contraption is an old Yugo and one very happy mushroom behind the wheel. Beat-up and a little rusty, but he’s smiling like it’s the best ride in the world.

What was your first car?

Since spring, a little winter baby has been quietly growing. In just a few months, we’ll welcome our third child into this world.

I carry a deep sense of gratitude. Gratitude for this body that has been able to carry and bring three children into the world. Gratitude for my husband, for the life we have built together, and for the opportunities we have created for ourselves as a family.

Our architectural practice will continue, just as it always has. And, as with our first two children, we look forward to welcoming this little one into both our family life and our everyday work.

We have never believed that building an architecture studio and building a family are opposing paths. Quite the opposite. Parenthood has made us better architects. It has taught us to slow down, to observe more carefully, to embrace imperfection, and to remember who and what we ultimately design for.

We believe family life deserves to be visible. Our children are not something we leave behind when we work, they are part of the life we live, and therefore part of the perspective we bring into our practice.

With every pregnancy, I’m also reminded of how fortunate I am to experience pregnancy, birth, and motherhood with safety, care, and support. It’s a privilege I never take for granted, and I wish every woman and every child could have that same opportunity ❤️

I can’t even fathom how painful those whippings were 😓 #morbidfacts

Too hot for heaven. Too expensive for hell.

Fallen angel. Expensive taste. Questionable intentions.
