Every competition tells a different story… ❤️🥋
It’s incredible how Jiu-Jitsu makes us experience emotions that sometimes words simply cannot explain.
This year’s Pan Pacific gave me a moment I will remember for the rest of my career.
I arrived feeling amazing, confident and prepared. I truly believe that when you train hard, confidence follows.
But things didn’t go as expected…
After my first match, I wasn’t feeling like myself. I started questioning everything, despite knowing how hard I had trained.
I won my second match, but with 30 seconds remaining, I injured my rib again.
Back in the bullpen, physically and emotionally, I was struggling.
I kept telling myself:
“JUST ONE MORE, DAN. JUST ONE MORE!”
Then something special happened… ❤️
I was talking with
@teganonepbjj from
@onepurposebjj, an incredible black belt and one of the biggest role models for our girls in Australian Jiu-Jitsu.
I told her:
“I’m feeling weird. I don’t know if it’s good or bad. I can’t even explain it.”
She looked at me and said:
“YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU NEED AT THE RIGHT TIME. JUST TRUST IT.” 🙏
Those words changed everything.
I walked into the final with a completely different mindset.
For almost five minutes, I was defending. No points, no advantages. But instead of panicking, I stayed patient, trusting myself and waiting for my moment.
And in the final minute… MY MOMENT CAME.
I managed to take my opponent down, score two points and become a 3-TIME NO-GI IBJJF PAN PACIFIC CHAMPION! 🥇🏆🇦🇺
After more than 30 years on the mats, this sport still teaches me something new.
Sometimes the biggest battle isn’t against your opponent. It’s against what’s happening inside your own mind.
This gold medal means much more than another title. It represents patience, resilience and learning to trust the process.
Thank you so much, @teganonepbjj, for the right words at exactly the right moment. You probably don’t realise how much they meant to me. ❤️🙏
Grateful to God for every opportunity, every lesson and every chapter of this journey.
Still learning. Still dreaming. Still fighting. 🐊
The journey continues…
JIU-JITSU FOR LIFE. ❤️🥋
