They Had Names | Episode 1: Mohamed Khamis Douda (محمد خميس دودا)
Before he became a humanitarian advocate, Mohamed was an engineering student in Nyala. He went on to become a voice for displaced communities in Darfur, helping families survive while documenting the atrocities unfolding around him.
Even as he faced hunger, bombardment, and threats against his own life, Mohamed continued speaking out.
In August 2025, he wrote, “We live in hope that this nightmare will one day end.”
Two months later, Mohamed was killed following the RSF takeover of El Fasher.
Through They Had Names, I hope to honor the people whose lives were taken, not only by remembering how they died, but by sharing who they were and how they lived.
If you knew Mohamed personally and would like to share a memory, photograph, or story about him, please reach out privately. I would be honored to help preserve more of his story.
