EMDR is not always EMDR done well. 👻
And the scariest part is that clients may conclude from a single experience that EMDR means flooding, destabilization, or mediocre effects — when they may actually be experiencing the limitations of their therapist’s training, not the limitations of EMDR itself.
Francine Shapiro gave us an extraordinary model. But knowing how to follow the protocol and knowing how to think in EMDR are not the same thing.
We need to understand what’s driving the symptoms, how trauma memory networks are organized, what our clients need to be ready for reprocessing, and how to strategically navigate the work when things get complicated.

Omg yes. I have so many clients I do EMDR with who have "done EMDR" and our experience is completely different.
