OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says it’s “quite terrible” for everyone to have a chunk of the world’s limited DRAM supply sitting in their own computer. He says it’s used just 5% of the time and that “you want maximum utilization.”

AI labs are competing for the same memory chips that go into phones, laptops, and gaming PCs. The company that needs the most DRAM is now arguing the best place for it is a data center.

Memory is becoming the scarce resource of the AI buildout, and the people who control the supply get to decide who uses it. Whether that ends with cheaper cloud compute or pricier personal devices is the question to watch.

We sat down with @lorenzo_senni at @muchoflowfestival, and among other things talked about how he manages to keep a life in music sustainable in a time when most musicians experience an increasingly tougher environment and living conditions.

Lorenzo told us how he started working in a factory chickpea processing factory at 17 before starting to “make it” in music. The way he deals with precarity is accepting that one day, he might have to go back.
