🇬🇷 Athens from the air!
🏛️ From the towering Acropolis to the ancient Agora below, few cities offer such an extraordinary glimpse into the ancient world.
These aerial views capture some of my favorite landmarks from our first episode of Exploring Ancient Athens, each with a story to tell.
From the Acropolis and its origins as a fortified Mycenaean stronghold in the Bronze Age, to the legendary contest between Athena and Poseidon, remembered at the Erechtheion. The remarkably well preserved Temple of Hephaestus and the reconstructed Stoa of Attalos overlook the ancient Agora, once the bustling heart of Athenian public life.
And beyond the city lies the Saronic Gulf, where, in the nearby Straits of Salamis, the Greeks won one of antiquity's most consequential naval victories against the Persian Empire.
🏺 Nearly 2,500 years after Athens reached its Golden Age, these landmarks remain a testament to the myths, struggles, and achievements of a civilization whose legacy continues to shape our world.
