Objectives are a mechanic in War for Roshar that can be disregarded for time and personal strategy, but can often make the difference of a few points that can win you the game, depending. Remain vigilant, and Subjugate before being Subjugated!

The question could not have been simpler. A reporter asked James Talarico: someone crosses the border illegally, does not apply for asylum, cannot find legal status — what comes next? The answer in American law is one word. Deportation. Talarico would not say it. He talked about hiring more immigration judges to process asylum claims and weed out the fraudulent ones, as if the question had been about paperwork. The reporter asked again, in substance: no asylum, no status, what then? He never answered. A candidate for the United States Senate from the state that lives with the border every day could not bring himself to say that breaking the law has a consequence.

It is not a slip. It is the record. The welcome mat speech. The “secret police force” line. The January debate where he said it was time to tear down ICE. The church he bragged about sheltering an undocumented family from deportation, told as a point of pride. The rally warmup act in Lubbock calling to abolish ICE while he stood by. He tells the cameras he wants to deport gang members and traffickers, not moms and babies, and then he cannot say the word for everyone else. The word is the policy, and the policy is the point: no enforcement, no consequence, no border, just a bigger waiting room.

He will not say it because his coalition will not let him. The open-borders left, the streamer class, the activists who treat every deportation as a crime — they are the force that put him in this race, and they are watching. A senator from Texas who cannot say “deported” is a senator who will vote like the border does not exist. Paxton has spent his career enforcing the law Talarico will not name. Tuesday, Texas gets to name it for him: deported, defeated, done.
