He always reminds me of Willy from Death of a Salesman, who was obsessed with being well-liked and having a legacy. Ended up having almost no one attending his funeral. Reminds me of that, as well as Ozymandias.

"don't report it" -- the thing he willingly said out loud at a televised video and audio recorded briefing in front of the press, available for the entire world to watch anytime they want. Dude, if you truly don't want something you say to come back and bite you then you need to practice really hard to have the self control to not let every word you think escape from your mouth.
