Paris, 1863. The official Salon rejected thousands of paintings. The rejects hung their own show down the road, people came to laugh, and Manet was in it. It turned out to contain the future of art.

So we are doing ours in Swindon. The Salon des Refusés open call at Studio BRUT is for Swindon and Wiltshire artists, 18+. Tell us who said no: your story is printed and shown next to your work.

Oh Ma, what is this Maya? I came to see you, but you were hidden beneath the depths of the earth, flowers & offerings making an abode above & around you. I wanted to see you, I was craving for a glimpse that would shake the earth beneath me, but in these sacred places they're always angry Ma, they're grabbing people by the arms and flicking them around like objects, how many here truly love you? But today I pause at desire. The ones I've had and the ones I still have. I see that our desires can either pave the path for the kind of world we wish to create or push us into a whole we cant get out of. I see your Divine grace embodied in my desires, in the women who trust me and love me, in friendship, in the animals who bless me, in the people who welcome me into their homes and feed me like a baby, in the eyes of my daughter, in the love of my parents, in the fragrance of flowers, in the arms of my lover. Hasn't all of this been birthed in my mind and body first? It was you, wasn't it? Living your own desires through me? I wish I saw you more closely today, I wish they gave us time, I wish there wasn't a need to rush, but I promise you I'm still paying attention. I'm looking at you in my life, because YOU are always present. You are hidden but always there. You know my desires, you know where I'm going. Just keep showing me what I need to see, even when it seems hidden. And may my desires be of benefit not just to me and my loved ones but to all beings, everywhere. Jai Maa 🙏🌹
