‪👏🏻 Huge congratulations on the launch of Studio BRUT (@studiobrut.art), Swindon’s first professional studio dedicated to outsider artists, now officially open at Hypha Project Space! ‬

We're proud to be part of this incredible new transformation. Don't just take our word for it, hear what councillors and other artists have to say:

⭐️ A Pioneering Project

"It's the first outsider artist gallery in Swindon. It's keeping that momentum going. We submitted our City of Culture bid only a week ago. We're now opening another art gallery in Swindon." - Councillor Matt Vallender, Swindon Borough Council's cabinet member for culture

⭐️⭐️ An example of how underused buildings could be given a new purpose

To make such a use of this really quite iconic building really is quite exceptional. It's a brilliant use of the place."- Councillor Keith Williams, cabinet member for finance and a Shaw councillor

⭐️⭐️⭐️ The power of the grassroots community here in Swindon

“When this space became available, no one took it because the requirement is quite difficult. But by working as a collective, we’ve been able to make the most of it." - Swindon Culture Collective’s Roderick Hebden

We can't wait to see more exciting news and upcoming workshops from Studio BRUT and Swindon Culture Collective.

Head to our website for more information about Hypha Project Space Swindon.

Paris, 1863. The official Salon rejected thousands of paintings. The rejects hung their own show down the road, people came to laugh, and Manet was in it. It turned out to contain the future of art.

So we are doing ours in Swindon. The Salon des Refusés open call at Studio BRUT is for Swindon and Wiltshire artists, 18+. Tell us who said no: your story is printed and shown next to your work.

Entries close 11:59pm Sunday 8 November.

Comment REJECT and I'll DM you the entry link 👇

I never went to art school. Nobody gave me permission. I just kept painting.

If your work has been called too weird, too rough, too much or "not proper art", you are exactly who this open call is for. Painting, drawing, sculpture, textile, print, photography, digital. If you made it because you had to, it counts.

Swindon and Wiltshire, 18+. Closes Sun 8 Nov. Link in bio.

People came to laugh. Manet was in it. It turned out to hold the future of art.

So we are doing ours in Swindon. If the establishment said no to you, or you said no to yourself, this is your wall.

Swindon. Wiltshire. I want your rejects.

The Salon des Refusés is our open call at Studio BRUT and it is for the work that got turned down, binned, hidden under the bed or never shown because you decided nobody would want it.

Any medium. Up to three works. Tell us the story of who said no. Your story hangs next to your work.

Swindon and Wiltshire artists, 18+. No exhibiting fee. No commission.

Take the meme, turn it back on itself. The Situationists called it détournement.

In 2015 😂 was Word of the Year. Now it's 💀. Laughing means dying, which is the whole joke of this painting.

It looks weird now and I don't know where this is going. None of it matters. There's no rules in art. slart.me/solo-show-kit (link in bio) #artist #outsiderart #makemoreart #painting by @slart.me
