Video 59.

I used to do more. I used to post every day. I stopped to give my body a break and let it heal, but then never really got back into the swing of things.

I’m not saying that I’m going to be doing these every day again, but I am going to make a concerted effort to do them more often.

It took George Floyd’s birthday to remind me to step outside myself for a while. by @p_hillup

It’s official.

The banana cake.

Not cake. A cake made of roasted banana. by @p_hillup

Treating myself to some vegan food after my hike.

The peach iced tea is amazing, and I’m excited for both the soy “duck” in sweet & sour plum sauce, and the dessert I’m having after this: banana cake with vegan ice cream. by @p_hillup

½ way back to the hotel.
Sun is down.

It’s dark and freezing.

Even my knees are glad I took the quick, steep way down the side of the mountain instead of that paved track that would have added a lot of time in the cold. by @p_hillup

Just trees and the sky, but damn it’s beautiful walking through here. by @p_hillup

The trail there on the left is where I came down, and how close I was to that wild kangaroo.

I didn’t even see the second one, just to the right of this shot, until after I took the photo. by @p_hillup

My fingertips make up the path I took up the side of the mountain.

There was a very slight path through the trees. Nothing like the paved walking track up. by @p_hillup

I made it.

A year ago, give or take a week or a day, I tried to do this climb before flying home to Brisbane. That time I stopped. It was starting to rain, I didn’t really have a clear path up, and only one person knew I was heading up.

This time, I had time after landing in Canberra. There is STILL sunlight left, and Apple Maps gave me a trail …

STRAIGHT UP THE SIDE OF Mt AINSLIE.

These 50-year old legs can’t handle the trip down the same way in almost-dark, so I’ll be playing it safe with a longer walk down.

But these views.

1) This is the direction I came from.
2) This is the opposite side - the airport side.
3) The capital. That is a man-made lake.

On the side of number 3, I see stairs and handrails. I guess that’s what I could have used if I had started at the trail start instead of right where I got to the mountain, but that would have been another half hour of walking TO the trail. I like my trip, but next time, I’m going to bring a walking stick.

Old man legs and everything. 😉 by @p_hillup

That extra layer of existence you don’t see
from the ground.

The shadows of clouds which leave you wondering what animals might be enjoying that moment of ash are as it moves slowly by.

The tiny cars and people, and my own shadow being a small jet-shaped dark blob on the ground.

You don’t really get this flying internationally.

At least not when you live on an island. by @p_hillup

One of my favourite things about flying is looking out the window (when I have the window seat, of course).

The cloudscapes created by whatever weather patterns and pressure systems are happening in the world are always breathtaking when you have the right vantage point.

I wonder, when the great fiction writers of the world took their first flights and saw white hills, forests, mountains, and creatures in the sky, which of our treasured stories were borne of such inspired views. by @p_hillup
