HOW WILL YOU BUILD YOUR PAAL HOME? 🏡

One of the great things about owner-building? You choose how hands-on you want to be.

🔨 Build it yourself
👷 Bring in a crew
🛠️ Use subcontractors where needed
🏠 Have a contractor take the lead
🤝 Or mix and match to suit you

Your kit. Your build. Your way.

Choose the approach that works for your skills, time and budget.

What’s your style? 🏡

If you love clean lines, open spaces and a home that feels simple and uncluttered, contemporary might be for you.

Think neutral tones, practical spaces and a less-is-more approach - modern, comfortable and easy to make your own.

Same Fitzroy. Two very different looks. 🏡

One is built on a slab. The other, a raised floor.

Paal homes can be built on either, giving you flexibility to choose what works for your site, budget and the look you want to achieve.

A slab is generally the more economical option and offers thermal benefits, while a raised floor can be a great solution for certain sites.

Same design. Different approach. Your home, your way.

For Peter and Denise Reardon, retirement isn’t just a time for putting your feet up. The couple, who are both in their 70s, built their own Paal home, managing the entire project and participating in the construction.

We went to see the show home at Emu Plains,” explains Peter. “When we were about three quarters of the way through it, we both looked at each other and knew that the design and the layout were just what we wanted.”

At 13 metres wide, the Camden is the perfect shape for their deep, narrow block in the iconic rural town of Gundagai.

“Every now and again little challenges would crop up and the Paal staff helped us through those. Knowing we had that back-up was excellent,” he says.

THROWBACK 🏡

Think a kit home means compromising on size, style or luxury?

This incredible owner-built Paal home might change your mind.

Peter and Kim chose the Castlereagh design and then made it completely their own — creating a sprawling country home complete with a designer kitchen and butler’s pantry, home cinema, study, gym and beautiful hardwood floors.

But perhaps the most impressive part?

Peter owner-built it.

With Paal’s plans, manual and support behind him, Peter managed the project, completed much of the work himself and brought in licensed trades where required.

At the time, he estimated that taking the owner-builder route had saved him around $300,000 — while giving him the freedom to create the home he and Kim really wanted.

As Peter said:

“Now I feel fantastic about completing the home. It’s something I never thought I could accomplish.”

A pretty incredible reminder of what an owner-builder can achieve. 💙

Why Owner Build?

For The Sense of Accomplishment 🏅💪

There’s nothing like the pride of building your own home. With owner building, you’re not just constructing a house; you’re creating a space that’s truly yours.

Time for the eaves! 🔨🏡

Another job being ticked off at @the_place_behind_the_pines, with the eaves now going in and the exterior really starting to come together.

That’s one of the great things about following an owner build — you get to see just how many individual stages go into turning a kit into a finished home.

Some are big, obvious milestones. Others are the smaller jobs that suddenly make everything look and feel that much more complete.

And this one is definitely starting to look like home. 🙌
