Structural power. Former One Chase Manhattan Bank skyscraper, now renamed 28 Liberty. Built in 1953, designed by Gordon Bunshaft of SOM.
The structure was positioned at the perimeter of the building footprint to allow for open uninterrupted office plans.
This building is one of the few to actually have merged together two blocks, closing off Cedar Street. This move permitted to create a wonderful open plaza intervened by works of Noguchi and Dubuffet.

Aside from Hearst, this is probably the best building by Foster + Partners in NYC.
This took almost 10 years in the making. The exposed structure is bold and its crown is very distinguishable in the skyline.
Surprised to see they're designing almost all of the newer landmark buildings.

Arcos de Mismaloya
Granite islands 10km south of Puerto Vallarta, in the Pacific Ocean. They're a sanctuary for birds and marine life.

Too big of a hotel and the reminder that in order to build these structures, there's a big footprint of nature - local ecosystems being removed; which it later gets disguised with pools, pathways, and the buildings themselves, but the impact is there.
Next-door to the hotel a condo and subdivision are being built.

Third in our visit to the volcanic lagoons is Aljojuca, a few kilometres south of the previous two and also in the state of Puebla.
Beautiful views towards the Citlaltépetl snow capped volcano, the tallest peak in Mexico.
Unlike the other two, Aljojuca has a newly built viewing platform. The crater is 1km in diameter, while the lagoon is around 50m deep. It's just fascinating to discover this not so popular beautiful landscapes, testaments to thousands of years of geological history.

Continuing with the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt landscapes, a bit north of the previous "lagoon", there's Laguna de Alchichica.
Also formed due to volcanic activity, this crater filled up with saline water is one of its kind, stromatolites can be appreciated in its shore (see photos 5 & 6), this kind of coral-like beings are one of the oldest forms of life on this planet.
This is 3 hours away from Mexico City, sadly or maybe positively in some regards, it's barely noticeable from the highway and nothing except material depots surround it. I think most people are not even aware of its existence, therefore the need for awareness for preservation efforts.
Fun fact, despite the harsh water composition with high levels of magnesium, there's an endemic species of axolotl living in this body for water.

The geological formations in the east side of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt.
This "lagoon" called Laguna de Atexac is actually the result of volcanic activity daring from 12,000 years ago, where the former crater gets filled with underground water sources. Its waters are highly saline and sulfuric.

It is located in the northern part of Puebla, along the highway. A marvelous set of monogenic volcanoes embellishes the horizon, the snow capped peak is Citlaltépetl, the highest peak in Mexico. taken in Puebla, Mexico by @pablosimg

Tectonics. The Pacific West Coast in America, as a continent, is known for its steep rocky formations originated by subduction. This refers to the result of millions of years of tectonic plates moving one against the other, and finally causing one to sink and the other to rise.
It's fascinating to see and understand the geological history of our planet reflected in the landscape we visit.
