Everything today is in such large measures. Rockets the size of skyscrapers, populations compounding. But the largest measure we can make still seems attached to time..

How long has time been here vs how long did time take, to make Pounamu Greenstone.

Greenstone, beginning as a piece of Earth over 100 million years ago, today can be handmade in one bespoke watch as shown.

Silhouettes of a case in process. Leaving a ghost of granules on the table top.

Fine granules interact with the base surface of the Paceracer case & another surface with tiny particles which are tougher than the metal case.

Some Paceracer models cannot be finished this way, requiring a totally different process. With no ghost.

Solid Naval brass is a material that has two valuable characteristics, useful insight for a watch owner. The first is this material is used widely to manufacture into products which are constantly in water.

The second being it ages with you as you wear it, forming a beautiful warm yellow gold tone.

This model is the original Sangfroid automatic made from solid Naval Brass.

Minimalism is the act of removing what is unnecessary, design (for us at least) is a balancing act of applying minimalism & subject matter to what is practically necessary in form & function, while tailoring harmonic proportion through the applied arts.

This object, crafted in New Zealand is a result of International Modernism incorporated into an automatic timepiece displaying time only.

The quest to achieve a particular aesthetic outcome. We’re delving deep into the technical requirements before we truly hone in on the aesthetic journey of this product. This is conceptual research at a technical level - discussing closely with @colinbartlett

We’re talking about a very detailed yet simple aesthetic achievement we wish to obtain on a precious metal watch, with Colin contributing his skills as a master jeweler on some of the components.

Given the size of New Zealand, our geographic location & also the industries we specialize in; at Paceracer it has been adventure in R&D from the very inception to discover local capabilities to achieve detail we wish to bring out in a particular watch if the machines or skillset are not in house.

Being so far from the heart/s of the watchmaking world & general centers of excellence we love collaborating with specialists along the journey when we do not have the tool in house.

Over the years, many new tools have been brought in house focused on watch manufacturing.

We’re enjoying developing a new precious metal detail here with Colin.
