In 2009, I wanted to create a way to share the pack/box breaks I was doing - with my friends on the Collectors Universe (PSA) message boards. In 2010, I launched the PackGeek YouTube channel. I wanted to share some wisdom I’ve picked up along the way, for anyone looking to get started making Hobby-related content.

1. Create Content that you’d want to watch yourself, and if you’re looking to turn it into a career, create the sort of content that you’d like a company or sponsor to pay you for someday. Consider it your portfolio.

2. This stuff takes time, and without patience you’re going to be really frustrated in the beginning, if you’re expecting immediate results. Side note - I’ve been producing videos professionally for nearly 20 years now, and I’ve never had a video go truly “Viral”. My reason for mentioning that is - you don’t need to make viral videos for you to be paid for your work. You just need to make interesting content.

3. Don’t wrap your self-esteem in your view count. I see it time and time again, wildly talented creators beating themselves up and wanting to throw in the towel, because their latest video didn’t get the response they expected. I’m guilty of this myself. A lot of times, it’s the video you least expect to hit that ends up blowing up. Consistency is huge. Sometimes a turd can go viral, and a masterpiece drops a goose egg.

4. Find a niche within a niche, and lean into it. In order to stand-out amongst the tidal wave of content, it helps to have your own unique take on things.

5. Take risks, be bold! Don’t be stupid, but it’s hard to put yourself on the map without taking a few risks. Something that feels ultra cringy to you today, may eventually be the hero we didn’t know we needed.

6. Gatekeepers are just insecure people in positions of power. They’re everywhere in the media business. Don’t be one and don’t let them steal your joy. They likely see your creativity and optimism as a threat.

7. Remember one of my favorite versus: “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” The content game is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. Keep your pace and you’re bound to lap a few people. by @packgeek

In 2018 I was invited to attend the National (Cleveland), by a buddy, to shoot content w/ Beckett. The highlight of the show for me though was meeting this digital marketing influencer that also loved Trading Cards. Now he has his own Topps product 🚀 @garyvee @veefriendscards by @packgeek

The only non-sport complete set that I own is one of my all-time favorites. Based around one the greatest martial arts movies of all time - Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon (1974). This 48-card set captures the film extremely well, including a card with a young Jackie Chan. This extremely condition sensitive and highly collectible set marries the popularity of MMA and Japanese collectibles. by @packgeek
