Look, if you’re going to have to stink at something as you learn it for the first time, it really helps to have a 4 year old come and hype you up. 😂

The most beginner thing I’ve ever done: I’m learning to play the violin at 38 years old. Except I CANT play it right now because I am SUCH a beginner I don’t know how to even tune it. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Stay tuned folks.

Second camping trip of the year is a wrap!

One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to camp once each month in 2026, and we squeaked out February right there at the end.

We were also able to share this trip with dear friends who were taking their toddler camping for the very first time! They were all champs. taken in South Carlsbad State Beach by @packingparkingpanicking

I don’t aspire to do anything really extreme when I go skiing. I am content just doing my blue squares while enjoying the view, and I don’t actually think being “better” at it would make me enjoy it any more. Mediocrity for the win. taken in Mammoth Mountian by @packingparkingpanicking

This is what your house looks like when you come home from camping, you left the campsite in a hurry, and everything is wet. 🏕️🌧️

Not cute or glamorous or even remotely fun, but it is part of the process - one that people keep behind the scenes BECAUSE it isn’t cute or fun. But it’s real. And if it’s a part of the process keeping you from engaging with camping, know you’re not alone in the mess. It WILL be clean…eventually. By the end of the day, the house looked totally normal.

New Years Resolution month 1: ✅!

We camped at Joshua Tree National Park on Friday night, the first of our monthly camping trips in 2026. It was chilly, but we came prepared this time. The SECOND night, it rained, and while under normal circumstances that isn’t a dealbreaker, we hadn’t anticipated it so we hadn’t set up our tent site to accommodate precipitation. We called it quits.

Now we have a trunk full of wet camping gear we didn’t unpack when we got home late last night. We can file that away under the list of things you typically won’t get shown on social media. taken in Joshua Tree National Park by @packingparkingpanicking

In case anyone else is worried their 2026 National Park pass is going to have a portrait of our current President on it, if you go to a Park NOW you can still purchase a 2025 pass if they have it on hand. It will be good through December 2026. Since this is the first week of January, you’re really not going to be missing much.
