Today’s Royal Line up! 👑
Every day - almost without fail - someone will say ‘you’ve got your hands full!’ / Are they all yours? 🤣
Actually we don’t have our hands full. But only because we’ve put in the ‘invisible’ homework.
If you train your dogs, then walking becomes - well, a walk in the park. 🤪

SCENTWORK
Finding one pine cone amongst thousands!!

I posted an edited, sped-up version of this as a story. This is the full version. This is a great exercise to get your dog using his nose and not just his eyes. I could have hidden a dummy or a tennis ball but then he’d be relying to some extent on visual confirmation. With this exercise George, my German Shepherd has to rely 100% on the scent. Only I can visually confirm it’s the correct cone because I broke a bit off it to make it recognisable. To George, it looks the same as all the others. Literally a carpet of thousands! Nothing tires a dog out more than a bit of Scentwork. It requires so much focus. If you’re short on time, try this game rather than just lobbing a tennis ball around. Rub your hands on a random pine cone and hide it. It’s great fun, it’s a great team building exercise, it’s fulfilling for your dog’s natural ability, and it builds tenacity and confidence. Make it dead easy the first time, and gradually make it harder as your dog figures out what the challenge is. It MUST always be successful, even if you have to walk right over to the prize and point to it an inch away. Don’t let your dog leave the game feeling defeated. Success builds confidence. You might need to be vocal initially and reassure your dog he’s on the right track, but sometimes this is distracting. If your dog loses heart and looks up for guidance, then give it. But if his head is down on the ground and he’s clearly working, and understands the task, then just be quiet. Let him concentrate.
THEN REWARD like he’s the cleverest dog on earth!

Nala, fox red lab, 2 weeks board & train.
Water obsessed, and as such her recall out of a stream or lake was zero. She pulled on the lead, jumped up on people and also generally quite a timid girl who needed bringing out of her shell, with lots of structured games & careful exposure to a variety of social situations. Of course I have my trusty pack to help me as always! 🥰

Re my earlier reel the other day….
Just kidding. I think this is probably impossible to train. Hazel never charges in en masse with everyone else. She doesn’t see the point 🤣. If I call her individually she’ll recall fine. But she refuses to compete 🤣 by @packwalker

Here’s a challenge.
We’ve all seen videos (I’ve posted many myself) of trainers calling one dog at a time, by name, out of a group.
But can you call everyone at once asking ONE to stay? 🤣
