Thank you to Mary Lane from Boyle Amateur Photography Club for capturing our group as we were landing on Golden Strands in Dugort, Achill a few weeks ago.

The group were on an Introduction to Sea Kayaking/Level 2 skills run by Vallli Schafer. We were blessed with a beautiful day.

Thank you to Bridge The Gap for funding training women in kayaking courses.

Making a splash with maps made for the water! 🛶💦

Kayaking and SplashMaps are a pretty perfect match.

After all, when getting wet is part of the adventure, you need a map that can handle it!

Just ask the Irish Sea Kayaking Association, who now have their own stock of Ordnance Survey Ireland Splashmaps, specially produced with tidal markers to make them even more useful out on the water.

A big thank you to Sarah McCarthy for sharing this fantastic shot of their adventures! 📸

Running an outdoor club, shop or event? We can create unique SplashMaps in bulk, tailored to your location and the needs of your members or customers.

Get in touch at www.splash-maps.com to explore the possibilities! 🌊

We’ve made it to Ireland 🇮🇪🌊

And judging by the number of sea kayaks around, we’re definitely in the right place 😂

ISKA Symposium 2026 starts tomorrow - very excited to get out on the water 🤩

For the past week, WCKC has been honoured and delighted to host Hanna, Annika, Gustav, Janne and Susanna of Vaasan Kanootikerho on their Erasmus visit from Finland.

We have shared some great experiences together over the past week, and a solid friendship has been formed.

We will miss you guys, and look forward to paddling with you again"

Strangers have become solid friends 🧡

Paradise in Donegal today for a group of Club members. Their destination, to kayak along the base of some of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, Sliabh Liag (Slieve League) rising to almost 2000ft or 598 mtrs above the Atlantic Ocean.

With glass like sea conditions they explored the caves, sea arches, waterfalls and encountered a pod of dolphins which was the cherry on the cake and a day that everyone will remember for years to come.

Huge thanks to Helen Fairbairn for trip planning and making the day possible for all.

@jujujay3 had an inherent fear of sticking his head under water after 2 near drownings. So naturally enough we spend an hour doing it. Over 50 times. JuJu learned to roll a kayak.

What a hero!

Our @bridgethegap_ire Womens Progression finally got under way after many false starts, mainly due to adverse weather conditions earlier in the year. The participants changed a number of times due to new dates so we had our final 6.

@atu.mayo Kevin O O'Callaghan was our Instructor and the remit was:

Lots of navigation off and ultimately on water in real time to complete the Essential Navigation Course.
Kayak camping. What to bring, what will fit in the boat. How to pack for the weather to prevent weather cocking and improve tracking in the predicted high winds.
How to paddle a heavy laden kayak.
Night Navigation. So taking all the days lessons and seeing how to work together in the dark of night and again how to equip ourselves for safety.

(All bar one had not Island camped so it truly was a whole new experience)

With a small craft warning in place on both days the learning was don't get fixated on one location. The elements ultimately dictate. To that end our first day was a long one. Meeting at 9.30. Lots of teaching then packing boats and leaving cars at the get off for the following day.

We took turns leading the previously worked out trip plan. So the first leg was just over 5nm so just over 9km. Lunch was very welcome!

Everyone contacted Malin Coast Guard to either log a TR or close it off. The 2nd leg ended up being a further 5nm as a more severe forecast was predicted for Sunday morning (F5/F6) so we had to adjust accordingly. We got to our night Island and set up camp. Cooked dinner and prepared for our night Navigation trip.

Finally getting off the water just after midnight and approx 20 km paddled we were ready to get into our tents and sleeping bags.

There were great sounds being carried on the night air as Mayo celebrated the win against Louth and the scramble for all Ireland tickets took place 🤣😅😆

Serious amount of learning took place.

Night Navigation up next 😁

I do this stuff so you dont have to.

Note of caution doing this. If there is strain on your shoulders or then paddle. Stop immediately. You can injure yourself doing it and break paddles.
