This was shot in front of the Sacré-Cœur in Montmartre.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Given the time of day, and the fact we made the film chronologically, there was an opportunity for the cast’s fatigue to naturally spill into frustration, and eventually rage on screen.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Me, Adam Singodia (@adamsingodia - Director Of Photography), and the guys talked through the scene probably once, then just ran with it. We shot two takes, and allowed the cast to live it. The aim was to find an outlet for George’s growing frustration to explode, see how Elyas and Skander would react, and capture George’s immediate regret.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The believability of the fight drew attention from hundreds of tourists and locals off camera. Super honoured to feature our Paris films AUXANNA and ELYAS with @directorslibrary. ⁣ ⁣ I’ve been wanting to tick this one off for a while, and am so grateful for the opportunity to share the creative whirlwind that was making these films with everybody who chipped in, and especially @adamsingodia, on their platform.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Both films explore identity as both performance and inheritance. From the personas young people adopt in both online and offline, to the legacy of male repression and intergenerational trauma, they ask how much of who we are is chosen and how much is passed down.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ AUXANNA follows a bored young cleaner who, while working for her parents’ company, invites an old friend over only to pretend the home is hers — a fragile fiction that unravels as her friend reflects on their time together.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ELYAS follows three young men drifting through Montmartre over the course of a day, building new friendships that erupt in jealousy, insecurity, and unspoken rivalry before renewing stronger than ever.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Watch now via @directorslibrary⁣⁣ | Full credits below taken in Paris, France by @paddyking

“The motivation was propelled by what Taylor calls ‘a growing sense of disenchantment and a lack of opportunities, where the usual hustling, trying to get commissioned work and build lasting relationships, was falling on deaf ears’” (@dalia.aldu via @wepresent)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Me and long-time buddy/cinematographer @adamsingodia set out to shoot two reactive, improvisational short films in two days in Paris. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Our Montmartre diptych, AUXANNA and ELYAS, became a testament to creative hustle: embracing limitations, improvisation, and for me, recapturing the excitement of making films as a child, willing work into the world for the love of it. Compelled to create because we have to. As ever, we’re both endlessly grateful for the new and old friendships throughout the process that made the experiment possible.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I made the above slides as a mini campaign of sorts, on the off chance we couldn’t secure an online premiere for the films. ⁣ ⁣⁣ As Dalia’s WePresent article writes “the project embodies the best of what the creative act is supposed to be, and what it’s supposed to feel like—energetic and challenging, spurred by a love of creating beautiful film work”.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Write-up and films available via @wepresent. ‘Unquiet Skin’ ⁣ ⁣ “The lasting effects of having a skin condition, aside from the immediate, are wounds that last past the healing stages. ⁣ ⁣ I wanted to magnify and normalise different skin types whilst exploring the physical and emotional pain that comes with it.
