We raise, train, and place life-changing assistance dogs 🐶

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Every PADS service dog starts their journey in the Puppy Raising Program 🐶

This program is where volunteers take an 8‑week‑old puppies and help them grow into confident, well‑socialized dogs who are eager to learn.

Each pup spends up to 18 months in the program, where they learn not only their basic cues and manners, but also how to navigate the world. Alongside their puppy raiser, they get to experience all kinds of environments, people, and situations, which helps prepare them for whatever life their future client leads.

Behind every PADS dog is a whole team of dedicated volunteers, supported by our incredible trainers. It takes a village to raise a future PADS service dog, and we couldn’t do it without them 💛

Interested in puppy-raising? We’re currently accepting applications. Learn more through the link in our bio 🔗

What is a mobility service dog?

As we celebrate International Assistance Dogs Week, we're highlighting the many ways assistance dogs change lives.

PADS mobility service dogs are highly trained partners who support people with physical disabilities.

These incredible dogs perform tasks such as opening and closing doors, pushing elevator and crosswalk buttons, retrieving dropped items (they are Retrievers, after all!), and much more.

Beyond these physical tasks, they help foster greater independence and confidence for their partners. They also offer something just as important: the devoted companionship that only a canine can.

Behind every mobility dog partnership is a village of volunteers who support these dogs on their training journeys.

You can make a difference in someone's life through volunteering with PADS. Learn more through the link in our bio 🔗

We’re going back to PADS basics and today we’re spotlighting our incredible Accredited Facility Dogs!

PADS Accredited Facility Dogs, or AFDs, work with community care professionals to support healthy communities. Their work often involves supporting vulnerable people in places such as schools, victim services, child and youth advocacy programs, and hospices. They can also work to support people in high-stress occupations, such as paramedics and first-responders.

Unlike a service dog who will give life-changing support to one client throughout their career, AFDs support many people and often leave their pawprints on hearts far and wide 💙

What else would you like to know about AFDs? Let us know in the comments! by @padsdogs

Another star has landed ✨ Everyone meet PADS Astra!

Astra comes to us from our friends at @bcandalbertaguidedogs. Her name, chosen by long-time PADS supporter, Roberta, symbolises guidance and hope. We think that's quite fitting for a future service dog 🐕‍🦺

Shine on Astra! We're so happy you're here 💛
