POSTS STORIES REELS

As a coach, I love getting to help people feel empowered, learn their bodies, and have fun through lifting.

One of the coolest parts? That experience looks different for everyone.

Here are 5 unique stories from a few of my clients—each came to me with vastly different goals, yet they all found exactly what they needed through strength training.

It's truly for everybody, and I love getting to bring that to as many people as possible.

My 4-week Intro to Powerlifting workshop begins in 2 weeks! So grateful to everyone who signed up, I can't wait to meet you and show you the ways of the barbell! Stay tuned.

I spend most of my time trying to keep my child alive and mentally healthy- the best I can. For a few hours a week, I get to focus on me in the gym.

It's impossible to completely compartmentalize your life, but we can show up for ourselves consistently, and give ourselves grace when we have a little extra baggage in tow.

You are so many different things to different people throughout the day and week- let's focus on YOU for once!

Dm me if you are looking for a welcoming environment to focus on you and your goals💕

First front squat pr in a few years!

90kg(10kg pr)

@ironsidetraining by @page_strength

I am 2 weeks out from another chill meet where my only goal is to lift weights and have fun.
Because putting pressure on myself to set prs and hit specific numbers made something that should be a fun outlet, a source of anxiety.

I started having hip pain a few weeks after hitting my 303 squat on the platform in July 2023. I told myself I wouldn't compete until I could hit that again.

But where did that mindset get me? It kept me off the platform for 2 years.

Screw that.

I found joy on the platform again a few weeks ago. Not because I hit ATPRs (I didn't).

Because I did something I love and let myself just enjoy it.

You should be building tension against the bar on all 3 lifts, and their variations.

Let's talk bench first.

When I find the right position under the bar, and pull myself against the bar using my lats, the unrack happens naturally and the weight feels lighter. Don't make your hands hold the weight alone, use your lats!

Rack height is very important for this so double check that it's not too high or low! If you are lifting it over the J hooks, it's too high.

The same can be said for squats.

Feet position under the bar and a proper rack height are important. If your feet are too far forward or back, your legs and glutes will be underutilized in the unrack. If the bar is too high, you can't build pressure between your feet and the bar. No tippy toes on the walkout. If your bar is too low(not a problem I usually see), then you are squatting the weight up just to squat.

Ok deadlifts. We often hear wedging related to sumo, but it is just as necessary on conventional. If you want to use your legs you need to keep them under you or it's just back city. Your back is a part of the deadlift, but don't make it do everything alone. It might not take as long as sumo to move off the floor, but it still requires patience.

The deadlift will move off the floor when it's ready and not a moment before. Long arms, drive your feet through the ground and wait.

If you read this far and are Interested in a bench and deadlift specific workshop @ironsidetraining, comment below!

I believe that in person coaching is super beneficial as it allows you to receive cues that are catered to you in real time.

What's the difference between the first and second single?

Expectations and mental prep.

Shanti went in prepared for a breezy single and then when it was heavy she wasn't ready. She didn't have her mind ready to need patience so she lost her wedge and was unstable.

It's okay to acknowledge that it's going to be heavy. You need to be ready for rpe 9 even if it's rpe 7. You can't be too braced.

"Oh no it's rpe 7, and I was braced for rpe 9"✅
"Shoot I was prepared for an rpe 7, but it was an rpe 9" ❌

My pep talk to myself before I walked out for my third deadlift on the platform last weekend was "it's going to be heavy, it's going to be slow, it might even be too heavy, but you're going to pick it up"

And it was beautiful because I wasn't surprised it was hard, I was ready with patience.

PSST btw @shantimurphy is peaking for her first National meet in Texas with Team @ironsidetraining!

2025 Oregon Championship Meet recap

Xander- 147.5kg/80kg/140kg This was Xander's second meet! He added about 76kgs to his total since his first meet in February 2025. When he started working with me in March his 1rms were 110kg/65kg/117.5kg. He has come so far in 9 months- I can't wait to see where we are in another 9. We have big goals for 2026!

Shanti- 110kg/65kg/140kg Shanti had a less than perfect prep with travel and sickness both interrupting her peak. She still added 15kg to her total from June! I can't wait to see what she can do with a more consistent prep because this was such a great day!

Matt- 115kg/70kg/125kg Matt also got sick the week before the meet which is a tradition for him at this point. Tis the season! He added 22kg to his total and felt way more comfortable on the platform. We're coming for that 300lb deadlift!

Kat- 45kg/90kg(push/pull) This was Kat's first powerlifting meet. She had a lot of nerves, but after her first bench attempt she was ready for more! I love to see the energy and confidence shift after a successful first meet.

Kendra- 100kg/65kg/110kg This was Kendra's first meet! She started training with me in March and quickly got the bug for strength. She is just heating up! When I asked her if she wanted to do it again, she replied, "Fuck yeah!"

Jeanise- 60kg/125kg(push/pull) This was Jeanise's first meet! Jeanise is such a determined and shining force and it was so incredible to witness her set prs on the platform for the first time.

Evelyn- 105kg/67.5kg/122.5kg This was Evelyn's second meet. Her life has been busy, making recovery less consistent than I know she'd like, but training doesn't exist in a vacuum and life will continue to happen. I was confident she would still have a good day and I was right- She added 25kg to her total from June!

Paisley- 145kg/67.5/135kg This was Paisley's second meet. She added 37kgs to her total since her first meet last November! Paisley spent part of this off-season dreading deadlift day. I know squats are her favorite and she is damn good at them, but deads do not hate her back! She missed 140 because of some hitching, but she still picked it up!

Best job ever🩷 by @page_strength

I don't pull numbers out of thin air. If I put weight on the bar, there's data that tells me it's there!

Kendra had just doubled 97.5kg at an rpe 8 so we loaded 102.5 for a single expecting a similar rpe. 100kg+ marks a major moment for lots of athletes and it's difficult to not build that up in your head. I've been there A LOT.

So after a pep talk and reminder that heavy doesn't mean too heavy, she pulled it with absolute ease and the patience I am used to seeing her exhibit with all her deadlifts.

It takes time to not let your brain dictate your strength and every hard rep is an opportunity to practice.

Coach reminder⬇️

Do you get to your back offs and think it's finally time to let off and wrap things up?

Woah there.

Rein it back in- If you want to get better, you have to be intentional. Those lighter sets are a great opportunity to practice. Maybe you noticed something funky on your top sets or you want to make your position more automatic and dialed.

Use em, don't waste em.
