One of my favorite ways to stretch as a designer is to look at spaces we work in often, and find new ways to make them feel completely new.

This design was created for a plant-loving dream couple who wanted their wedding at @amaterrawines to feel alive and deeply rooted. Their direction was simple and thoughtful. Do not compete with the venue. Amplify it. Let it feel more them.

The massive raw concrete columns at Amaterra are a defining architectural element that we had never seen highlighted before. The couple wanted mid century modern color and design elements softened with tons of botanical elements and plants (she’s got quite the green thumb!)

We followed the lines of the architecture, the natural light, and the surrounding landscape, weaving florals, vines, and living plants into what already existed.

These installations had to be huge, to balance the scale of the columns and building. Everything was built with invisible mechanics (my favorite kind!) so the installations felt permanent versus placed, and looked effortless. The goal was for the florals and the architecture to feel as though they had always belonged together, just like our couple.

Bringing these installations into cocktail hour allowed the ceremony design to carry through the building itself, creating a quiet, cohesive dialogue between the celebration and the space.

Creative freedom changes everything- especially when you let the space lead the way.

For this event, we reworked the room with soft draping, layered neutrals, and intentional hits of color to completely shift the feel. The draping created a subtle cabana-like moment, something we hadn’t seen done in this space before, adding intimacy, movement, and a sense of ease. Creating height without traditional hanging points meant getting creative with structure, tension, and flow, adding depth without overpowering the architecture.

The couple wanted to keep the mid century modern vibe front and center, with tons of plants and a space that felt warm, grounded, and alive. Creams, soft woods, and natural textures set the stage, while florals and table details brought in color and personality. Woven shades at varying heights added dimension and made the sight lines more dynamic. Nothing loud, nothing too heavy, just enough to make the room feel layered and intentional.

This transformation started with collaboration. Nicole from the fabulous @zillaevents brought me in on the initial design deck, and together we built it into the immersive space it became. She made every part of the planning process effortless and a total blast. Huge love to Drew and the team from @runestoneevents, and to the team at @greenlightpdx, who are not only dear friends but always run with my ideas, add their own, and somehow make everything even better.

The kind of fall day you hope for when you choose an October wedding in Oregon. Golden sun, leaves beginning to turn bright colors, crisp air, and that warm golden light that somehow makes everything feel magical.

And then there was the wedding itself.

Every part of this day felt deeply thoughtful. I think that’s one of my favorite things about a beautifully designed wedding. The details can be incredible, the setting can be breathtaking, everything can look like it belongs in a magazine, but the real luxury is how all of that intention creates space for you to actually be there. To be present in it all.

To linger over dinner. To watch the sun disappear behind the hills. To laugh with the people who flew across the country to sit at your table. To sneak away together for ten minutes in the last bit of golden light and think, “wow, this is our wedding.”

Beautiful things, yes. But beautiful things in service of a really meaningful experience. Oregon wine country in October, you are very hard to beat. 🍷✨

High tea and bocce ball in Oregon wine country. We stand by the combination. :)

The Allison Inn has a way of making an afternoon feel like something worth clearing your schedule for. Tea turned into bocce, bocce got a little competitive, and somewhere in between there was plenty of time to actually get to know the people we were spending the afternoon with.

Because that’s really why we create experiences like this. The best business relationships come from the best personal ones, and sometimes giving people something fun to do together is all it takes to get those started.

Thank you to our incredible creative partners who made this afternoon possible:

An Amaterra Winery wedding somehow feels like you left Portland without actually leaving Portland.

There are vineyards, huge views over the valley, and a modern space that feels completely different from most Portland wedding venues. But what I liked most about photographing a wedding at Amaterra was how many different environments you get without spending the day driving around looking for photos.

Vineyards. Big open views. Clean architecture. Good light. And then a packed dance floor once the sun goes down.

If you’re looking for a Portland winery wedding venue that feels a be little removed from the city while still being incredibly easy for everyone to get to, Amaterra is a pretty great combination.

A bright color palette doesn’t have to come off as chaotic.

This employee appreciation event at @amaterrawines came with clear direction from the client: they wanted it elegant, and elevated. No real theme, just a focus on making the space feel good to be in.

We pulled from local growers to echo what’s happening just outside those windows. Tulips, layered spring blooms, small hits of color that feel intentional, not busy.

Slate linen from @ardeneventcollective grounded the table. Soft architectural drape with a warm amber wash from @runestoneevents settled the room and let the color read fully, while providing a tailored backdrop for twining floral tiebacks. We added teak bowls with smaller arrangements, pin frogs in more wooden bowls with dancing stems, and budvases as well as small table lamps and votives for glow. That clean blue and white background kept it classic, with space for brighter notes to shine through.

It was elegant, and elevated- but still fun. It’s ok to have fun with color, if you know how to balance it. This event was a celebration of employees, but also a celebration of spring. by @pageelliottdesign

If you’re going to hear one thing out of me consistently about event design, it’s this:

Scale (with intentionality) is everything.

When the ceilings are 25 feet, the fixture behind the bar is 16 feet, and the bar height is 42 inches, you’re going to need a big, striking piece to even begin to show up in the room.*

For this event, we showed up with pieces taller than us to give big impact as people walked into the space. Combined with an inspired bar layout by @onesourcestrategy that accented the features of the press and the room at @reddonsalmon, it was a wow moment that demanded an audience.

We want your events to be showstoppers. Our clients come to us because they know we will deliver.

You deserve fabulous flowers.
