My heart is so heavy. This is my family dog — and she was everything to me. No matter how long I was gone, when I came home to my family, she and I were inseparable. Always at my side. Always waking me with cuddles… and the grossest, most devoted licks.

She lived on a sizeable property where chickens roamed free. Her favourite pastime was tracking down the abandoned, hard-to-reach nests they’d made — and returning home absolutely stinking of rotten eggs, so proud of herself you couldn’t even be mad.

She followed me anywhere. She’d steal my fish and chips if I looked away for a moment, then stare at me as though I’d given her the greatest gift a human could ever give a dog — and all would be forgiven.

Rest in peace, Otterly. You will be buried with Gabbana, and I know you’ll both be rolling through doggie heaven side by side — soft, safe, and completely at peace.

If you listen carefully you can hear an old man playing the whistle, a whistle on the wind on the pier.

Taken on iPhone 12, the back glass is shattered and the vibrate function stopped working a while back but the camera still works and for that I’m grateful. No filter, no processing or editing. taken in Kerferd Road Pier by @pageofdav
