used book haul! 🛍️📚💸

this morning i drove up to the “used book super store” in burlington, mass! i leave for vacation in 2 days, and i needed some summer romance reads. this place is AMAZING. it’s the size of a supermarket and they have everything. they offer brand new books where you can return them for half your money back, and so many used books for super cheap that are in great condition. i left with 10 (3 were gifts)! as you can tell i raided the emily henry section - i finished beach read last week and was obsessed so i cant wait to read her next books. these all cost me between $5-12 each. first time book buying where i got zero fantasy reads, but im really excited to dive into romance🥰 taken in Used Book Superstore- Burlington by @pageswithemma

Spark of the Everflame ✨⚔️🌲🏰

My rating: ★★★★☆

Fantasy books have started to blur together for me. Different names, different kingdoms, same formula: the poor girl with hidden power and a strong attitude, the brooding prince, & a rebellion simmering in the background. This book follows those same patterns, but it clearly works because I loved it anyway!! I’m curious to learn more about the magic system and Diems place in it all

My theory: I believe Diem’s father was one of the Old Gods, and her mother is the true leader of the mortal rebellion taken in BOOKSTA by @pageswithemma

REVIEW: the sirens by @emiliahartbooks 🧜🏼‍♀️🪉🌊🔍🪸🫧🔪🐚

rating: ★ ★ ★ ★. 5 (4.5/5)

plot overview: seeking refuge with her estranged sister in a remote coastal town, lucy arrives to find that jess has disappeared. her search for answers uncovers a history of mysterious disappearances and connects her to the story of twin sisters mary and eliza, who were sent to australia on a convict ship two centuries earlier

“lucy awakens in the middle of the night with her hands around her ex lovers throat”

review:
once i read the first line of the synopsis (^^^), i knew i needed to read this book. the story unfolds like a mystery, slowly revealing its secrets and keeping me invested the entire time. while it’s classified as historical fantasy, the fantasy elements are subtle, with more of a folklore feel woven throughout. it explored heavy themes, including abandonment and sexual assault, with a lot of depth and care. i loved both sets of sisters and the bonds they shared, and i found myself equally invested in each storyline. after reading so many surface-level booktok romances lately, i appreciated a real story with complex characters, layered relationships, and a plot that trusted the reader to piece things together. i enjoyed every page of this book and truly can’t recommend it enough! taken in BOOKSTA by @pageswithemma

REVIEW: people we meet on vacation by @emilyhenrywrites 🌴🛩️🍹🧳☀️🏨

rating: ★ ★ (2/5)

this book came to me at the wrong time in my life, which definitely affected my reading experience. under different circumstances, i probably would’ve enjoyed it more, but i never fully connected with the main characters or got that “can’t put it down” feeling. i also wasn’t a huge fan of the dual timelines. i can see why people enjoy it, but it just didn’t work for me personally :(

my emily henry rankings:
1. book lovers 🥇
2. beach read 🥈
3. funny story 🥉
4. happy place
5. people we meet on vacation taken in BOOKSTA by @pageswithemma

REVIEW: crescent city two: house of sky and breath🪽🌊🌙🧚🏼‍♂️🪐🌌 by @sarahjmaas

my rating: ★★★★.5

my thoughts (mini spoilers):
✮ this one’s pace was very similar to the first in that it took me around 150 pages before i was locked in
✮ bryce and hunts relationship issues at the beginning bothered me for so many reasons i won’t get into
✮ the asteri reveal was slightly underwhelming, but im happy we’re starting to see the big picture
✮ i’m sick of everyone being mates! i thought we moved past that
✮ danika sucks how does she continue to fuck up from her grave
✮ i don’t trust tharion one bit
✮ the most exciting plot for me has been agents night and day!!! i was SO into their story and the reveal was not at all who i expected! cant wait to see that one shake out
✮ i knew it was coming, but nothing could prepare me for the last sentence of this book 🤫😆 WELCOME BACK IVE MISSED YOU taken in BOOKSTA by @pageswithemma

REVIEW: crescent city one: house of earth and blood 🌙🌇🧚🏽‍♀️👼🏼🌟🐺 by @sarahjmaas

my rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

consider this your sign not to judge a series by how intimidating it looks. this 800 pg book was a masterpiece from start to finish and reminded me why i would trust SJM with my life.

let me convince you to read it:
✦ if fantasy and murder mystery combined
✦ it’s no longer just the fae, now we have angels, werewolves, witches, shifters, and so much more in the universe
✦ the slowest of slow burns with incredible yearning
✦ forced proximity - the MMC has to keep watch of her and they’re forced to work together to solve the mystery
✦ the FMC is fierce, clever, and bold similar to aelin, while the MMC is known as the “umbra mortis” (the shadow of death)

i was shocked by how much i loved this, especially after hearing mixed reviews. it took about 150 pages to fully hook me (heavy world-building at first), but once it clicked i did not put it down.

i buddy-read this with my friend katie, which made the experience even better. despite being over 800 pages, it flew by, and every page felt necessary. i’m officially attached and praying there’s no second-book syndrome🤞🏼if you loved ACOTAR and TOG, don’t put off this series like i did! read it now i promise. thank you to @kellyparkker for gifting me this one!! taken in BOOKSTA by @pageswithemma
