I’m currently doing @estherfungreads classics challenge with @abbeybreshears !

The first month was supposed to be Ancient Greeks, but we fudged this a little and included anything written before 470 AD. We chose Meditations by Marcus Aurelius! I’m glad to be working my way through this, because I’ve been intrigued with aspects of Stoic philosophy lately and I feel like I see this referenced all over the place. Stay tuned for my thoughts when I finish!

“Don’t waste the rest of your time here worrying about other people- unless it affects the common good. It will keep you from doing anything useful.”

Next up: the Gothics! Should we read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë or Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier?

Check out this gorgeous handmade bookmark from my amazing sis-in-law @wickedwhimsycreations ! It’s got a page from Dune in it, which is such a foundational book in my journey as a reader. It was one of my favorite Christmas gifts this year! For me, a beautiful or unique bookmark really adds to the cozy reading vibes.

Also pictured - the amazing one she made for my mom!

CR: Unruly by David Mitchell. This is a very funny tongue-in-cheek survey of all of the English Kings and Queens. Thanks @kistreadsbooks for the rec! I’m thoroughly enjoying it!

The Unselected Journals of Emma M Lion by Beth Brower are a delight! If you are feeling the heaviness of recent events, these are a perfect read. Thanks @krisandmads for convincing me to start these!

As a mood reader, I would love to know - what is your go to book recommendation when someone is looking for something lighter?

Rave reviews for my most recent buddy read with my brother, which was Jade City by Fonda Lee. We both loved it!

Do you have any suggestions for future buddy reads for my brother and I? We both tend to like fantasy and sci-fi a lot. Drop your suggestions in the comments below!

I was tickled to see this super Interesting article in The Economist Holiday Issue about the economics of Jane Austen. I throughly enjoyed it!

Does anything surprise you about the wealth comparisons between different Austen characters? I would have expected a bigger gap between the Bennets and the Bingleys, personally! by @pagingandi

For Christmas my brother and my sister-in-law got me my own beautiful complete set of Jane Austen’s works! Aren’t they gorgeous?!?

I’ve really been in the mood for some Austen lately, so let me know which one you think I should (re)read first! by @pagingandi

A cozy rainy day bookish family outing - AKA a love letter to my local public library. Thank you friendly librarians! Afterwards we washed down our books with lunch at our local Scandinavian inspired cafe.

QOTD: what is your favorite thing about your public library?

I like to reserve books in advance and pick them up when they become available. Then when I go in I can browse the shelves to see if anything else catches my fancy too! And having your library card also gives you access to Libby, which is an app that allows you to check out audiobooks. This is the single most frequently used app on my phone!

For anyone checking out our library haul at the end - the power ranger books do NOT make for a great read aloud experience as an adult… but lots of other great finds! by @pagingandi

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you enjoyed some delicious food or time with family and friends last week. Here are a few of the authors I’m thankful for this season! This list could be so much longer, but I just had to cut myself off at some point 😂.

For Nonfiction November I’ve put together a list of nonfiction books that I’ve enjoyed or appreciated! I usually read more fiction than nonfiction, but I find nonfiction to be a great palate cleanser at times. I hope you find something here to spark your interest!

Note: I didn’t include history books or books on parenting here, because in my head those fall into other specific categories that you will see in future content! by @pagingandi

During my run today I listened to my current audiobook, The Blighted Stars by Megan E. O’Keefe. I’m only 22% in so far, but this book has had me hooked since the first 5 minutes! I can’t wait to see where this one goes! by @pagingandi
