I genuinely wouldn’t be where I am without these people. Whether it’s sending voice notes to each other, making group chats so people can find their people, singing nativity, staying up way too late talking, crying because I’m emotional, asking for help with my account, getting my favourite fanfiction bind, or simply being surrounded by some of the most talented artists I’ve ever seen.

These people have moved me in ways I don’t think I’ll ever be able to properly put into words. They’re the reason I’m here. They’re the reason I’m so happy to post the most random things on the internet, even when I have to delete hate comments every single day.

Because no matter what, these people have got me. 🤍

Because I swear we’re missing out on all the good book events, pop-ups and bookish meet-ups!! 😭

I’m based in the West Midlands and I’m always seeing amazing book events happening elsewhere, and I thought… surely there are more of us here who want to meet other book lovers, find out about local events and just have a little bookish community?!

I went into ACOTAR expecting another Fourth Wing situation, convinced I’d be the one person who hated it. I was hooked within five chapters.

Somehow, I’d also managed to convince myself that Nesta and Elain were Fae and Rhysand’s sisters. I don’t know how I got that so spectacularly wrong.

I was rooting for Tamlin for most of the book, Lucien was an immediate favourite, and Feyre painting two irritating men as pigs was entirely justified. However, Calanmai had me questioning Tamlin, and Under the Mountain genuinely upset me. The drugging and lack of consent made me deeply uncomfortable, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise just because Rhysand is a fan favourite. I’m very much on the fence about him.

The curse reveal was chef’s kiss. Everything started clicking into place, and I love when a reveal makes you rethink what you’ve read.

I have QUESTIONS about Rhysand’s bargain, his reaction to Feyre becoming High Fae, and what exactly he knows that I don’t. I also have complicated feelings about Feyre being brought back when she’d made peace with dying. Did anyone actually consider what she wanted?

My biggest criticism is that I wanted more worldbuilding. I struggled to picture Prythian and its different locations, and I wanted to feel more immersed in the world.

Overall, I didn’t love everything, but I’m invested. I have complicated feelings about several characters, a notebook full of questions, and absolutely no idea what to expect next.

Considering I nearly avoided this series altogether because I thought it would be another Fourth Wing situation, I’d say that’s progress x

A little thank you for 6,000 of you 🤍

I really don’t know how this account has grown so much in such a short amount of time, but I’m so grateful that you’re all here. Thank you for putting up with my ramblings, my memes, my constant posting, my never-ending @brigitteknightley appreciation and currently, my hatred for Xaden 😂

When I started this account, I genuinely just wanted somewhere to talk about books and the characters I was inevitably going to become far too attached to. Somehow, it’s turned into a little community that I love coming back to every day.

And somehow, 1,000 of you have joined me in the last 13 days, which still doesn’t quite feel real.

Thank you for every like, comment, message, share, recommendation and random bookish conversation. I appreciate you all more than I can properly put into words.

I had hoped Iron Flame would work better for me than Fourth Wing, but unfortunately I enjoyed this one even less.

My biggest issue was the pacing. Despite being significantly longer, I often felt like very little was happening. There were long sections focused on training, military discussions and the wards that I really struggled to stay interested in.

The romance was also still a disappointment. I don’t feel the chemistry between Violet and Xaden, and their relationship still doesn’t give me the enemies-to-lovers tension I was expecting and I was over the pair of them.

I did enjoy learning more about the venin and the wider story, and there were some reveals towards the end that genuinely surprised me. Unfortunately, they weren’t enough to make up for how much I struggled with the rest of the book.

I found myself thinking about how much I had left to read rather than wanting to keep going. The ending definitely gives the series somewhere interesting to go, but I’m still not particularly invested in the characters or romance.

Unfortunately, this series just isn’t working for me and at this stage I won’t try book 3.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨

I fear I have found the perfect job for me…

So here I am, officially applying to become a Birch & Spine Rep for the November–January term!

I already spend most of my time talking about books, making reels and aggressively recommending romantasy to anyone who will listen, so getting to do all of that while shouting about a gorgeous book box sounds pretty SWELL to me.

Consider this my very serious and professional application.

This was a slightly unexpected read for me because it was voted as my next read, so I do wonder if going into it with so much hype affected my experience.

I was promised enemies to lovers, but I just didn’t feel it with Violet and Xaden. The attraction between them was obvious almost immediately, so I never really felt the tension or danger I was expecting. I actually spent most of the book rooting for Dain and Violet, or Liam and Violet. Liam did quickly become my favourite character.

Violet was a mixed bag for me. She could be frustrating, but I did appreciate that she wasn’t instantly brilliant at everything. Watching her learn to fight, understand her abilities and adapt to riding a dragon gave her some much-needed flaws.

I struggled to become attached to the supporting characters. Rhiannon, Ridoc and Imogen all had potential, but I wanted more development from them.

The biggest issue for me was that I never became fully immersed in the story. The romance didn’t blow me away, the intimate scenes didn’t feel particularly earned, and I wasn’t completely sold on the writing style or world-building. The dialogue also felt very contemporary, which made the book feel much more YA than I expected.

I can completely understand why people love this book, and it has so many elements I normally enjoy, but unfortunately the hype didn’t translate into the reading experience for me.
