Uphill behind my log cabin in the national forest is the Farwell Ditch.

The Farwell Ditch is an 18-mile-long historic water diversion channel in North Routt County, Colorado. Built between 1876 and 1878 by a workforce of 100 to 200 wage laborers using picks, shovels, dynamite, and horses. It was constructed to transport water from the Elk River watershed to Hahns Peak to power large-scale, industrialized hydraulic gold mining operations. And was added to the National Register of Historic Places in September 2025.
