Nothing wrong with studying computer science, but if you’re going to go $250k into debt to do it, I simply don’t think that’s a good idea in this day and age.

It’s never been easier to get started building with all the tools out there. Learn AI and definitely learn some software fundamentals as well. I’m super grateful for the technical background, but some days it feels like it was overkill. by @paigethepm

Growing up means realizing that two things can be true and life is all about contrasts.

Life got a lot easier when I stopped trying to fit into one box and embraced that we are complex human beings with a range of emotions and reactions to things.

This holds especially true to me with tech right now. I want to keep up but I also want to put my head in the sand and forget all of the AI advancements exist. Even Dario Amodei himself writes about holding light and shade. Understanding there are two sides to everything and externalities is tech and life is important for conversations around the future of tech and humanity when it comes to AI.

Bad Better Best AI in 2026 edition ✨

There are a lot of tools out there and it can be pretty overwhelming to get started. Honestly getting started is better than not doing anything at all, but if you want to try the best tools out there, here are my recommendations.

Disclaimer is that this list perpetually changes, so if you take anything away from this, just start tinkering with tools.

The best way to learn AI is to try it yourself, not to just keep reading about it or watching videos 🫶

Evals are all the rage these days in AI circles and especially for AI Product Managers. Might sound mystical and confusing but honestly it’s just another word for tests.

The reason we need to do Evals instead of traditional unit tests is because AI is non-deterministic, meaning the one input does not always yield the same output.

A couple tools for Evals in software products are: Braintrust, DeepEval, and LangSmith by LangChan. You can also do manual Evals, which I have done on previous teams (it is time consuming hahaha).

Sonnet? Opus? Deepseek? Astra?? One of the top questions that comes up in my workshops, events and trainings on AI is which model should I use?

Anthropic’s Applied AI team recommends using the cheapest model to get your task done and I couldn’t agree more. We know most folks start with the biggest model and that’s a surefire way to spend a lot of money on something that probably doesn’t need it.

Believe it or not, Sonnet and Sol are both pretty great to get things done. Don’t drive your fable Ferrari to the grocery store friends.

I think in the future hopefully we won’t have to even think about models or tokens and the systems will be smart enough to select the best for us, but who knows what the future holds in this day and age 🙃

AI doesn’t have to be all agents and loops all the time. Sometimes it’s little things like an assistant you can text for quick tasks or one offs that you don’t want to forget.

I was testing out Instinct this week and was pleasantly surprised with how well I was able to tick items off the to do list.

The product went absolutely viral this week. They’ve done a great job taking into account customer feedback and iterating to improve quickly too!

Cat sat on a spaceship. 🚀 The probability part is what makes things interesting but also makes AI harder to use in business contexts.

Understanding how LLMs work the way they do should help you understand why things sometimes go awry.
