I'm excited to open my art studio to the public for @artspansf SF Open Studios! Visit me on Weekend 3, October 10 & 11 from 11AM to 5PM to see my work. The theme this year is my favorite artwork that I've made and I'm really proud to show it.

My time in Paros, Greece as the artist in resident at @cycladicarts has been hard to put into words because it was so life changing. I feel connected to others in a way that makes me feel hopeful. There was such a freedom in knowing that I was not being surveilled. I found the travelers and locals to be welcoming to different perspectives without adherence to dogma. I will undoubtedly see the impact of this trip continuing to unfold in my life and art.

I painted everyday I was there. While there is much more to say about what I made and what it means, for now, I’ll invite you to come to my open studios at @rootdivision on October 10 & 11, 11-5PM. Here please meet Jasper @paintwilde who comes from San Francisco and the Bay Area 🤩delighted to meet them and see how their practice reflect to our island and the Aegean vibes 🤗🤩💙and delighted to see how many common friends we have 🤗🤗🤗

Jasper Wilde (they/them) is an abstract painter and educator based in San Francisco. Their vibrant, dynamic artworks channel experiences of a trans person navigating late-stage capitalism. Exploring themes of collectivism, belonging, autonomy, and imagination, Jasper’s work is characterized by bold colors and gestural expression. They have led workshops at SFMOMA, Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, ArtSpan, Root Division, Ruth’s Table and Oakland Art Murmur, encouraging artists to infuse their emotions into their work.

As an Artist in Residence at Cycladic Arts, Jasper has focused on creating a body of work that responds to the landscape, sea, and culture of Paros Greece. Jasper works in acrylic and watercolor on paper to translate the deep contemplation that comes with being outside the imperial core of the US and the techno-fascist hub of San Francisco. Without the constant presence of police violence and hyper surveillance, they are swimming and painting every day, taking long hikes and bus rides to explore the island. After nearly two years, I’ve wrapped up my time at @artspansf. I’ve recently started a new role with @for_site and @hainesgallery, and I’m excited to share more about that opportunity soon.

I’m incredibly grateful for the coworkers, artists, board members, collectors, donors, and the broader community.

ArtSpan was the first place I truly felt validated as an artist, thanks to the welcoming energy and enthusiastic support for simply showing up. I feel so lucky to have shared so much of my creative energy—whether managing the SF Open Studios exhibition, project managing ArtLaunch, rebranding the communications strategy, or exhibiting my own work.

Although I no longer work at ArtSpan, I’m still an enthusiastic supporter and plan to stay actively involved in the community. I’m looking forward to volunteering and showing my work at Locally Grown: ArtSpan’s Invitational Auction on June 4–5! taken in SOMArts Cultural Center by @paintwilde
