Skulls have appeared in art, jewelry, and ornamentation for centuries, carrying meanings that range from mortality and transformation to individuality and rebellion. Yet sometimes, a skull is simply an intriguing artistic form.

Black and Ember explores that idea through a brilliant Swarovski Sun crystal skull, fiery orange Czech glass, and contrasting matte and polished black beads.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about unconventional jewelry isn’t what it represents, but why we feel compelled to assign it a meaning.

Across centuries and cultures, dragons have captured the human imagination, representing strength, wisdom, and the mysteries that exist beyond the world we know.

That sense of history and symbolism inspired this bracelet, bringing together a carved black obsidian dragon with intricately etched pearl prayer beads from Nepal.

The Nepalese beads recall centuries-old traditions of prayer and meditation, while the dragon introduces another layer of meaning. Together, they reflect the ways different cultures have used symbols and beautiful objects to express something greater than themselves.

A sky captured in stone. Wisps of white drift through layers of celestial blue, as though clouds and atmosphere have been suspended within the agate itself.

Dickinson’s words remind us that the limits we place on ourselves are often the very ones that keep us from discovering what is possible.

Perhaps personal style is no different. We gravitate toward what is familiar, what feels comfortable, what we already know suits us. But stepping beyond those boundaries, even in something as simple as choosing a bold statement necklace, can reveal another side of ourselves.

After all, the sky was never meant to be the limit.

There’s more to handmade jewelry than choosing beautiful materials.

Creativity may begin a design, but skill determines how successfully that idea becomes a finished piece. Bead size, weight, proportion, construction, movement and even the way a clasp is attached all influence how a piece looks, feels and wears.
