Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said on Saturday that Pakistan had secured enough energy supplies to last through November and was planning for higher household demand during winter.

Speaking to AFP on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank annual meetings, he said Pakistan had managed the initial impact of surging energy prices caused by the US-Israeli war on Iran, with no shortages or fuel queues.

However, he warned that continued attacks on energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries could delay a return to economic normalcy.

Aurangzeb said the government would avoid purchasing expensive spot liquefied natural gas cargoes unless absolutely necessary.

He also acknowledged resistance to economic reforms, saying efforts to change the status quo inevitably faced pushback from industry, lobbying groups and vested interests. by @pakobserver

He reiterated that the country's armed forces stand prepared to "defend every inch of the motherland" at all costs. by @pakobserver

Commander National Strategic Command Gen Aamer Raza on Saturday warned Pakistan’s adversaries that “any miscalculation will be met with a response far beyond the imagination or the calculation of the initiator”.

Addressing the passing-out parade of cadets of the 154th Long Course at the Pakistan Military Academy, he said the armed forces stood ready to “defend every inch of the motherland” at all costs.

Gen Raza said adversaries sought to drive a wedge between the people and the armed forces through “calculated disinformation and narrative warfare”. He added that hostile elements continued to exploit internal vulnerabilities to “cultivate proxy instruments against our national unity”.

He stressed that safeguarding Pakistan’s unity, sovereign integrity and territorial inviolability was “an absolute imperative, which we shall uphold at all costs and under every circumstance”. by @pakobserver

Iran on Friday denied involvement in Yemen’s Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, rejecting Riyadh’s accusation that Tehran had encouraged the latest escalation as missile and drone strikes continued across the kingdom.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said the Houthis acted according to their own interests, adding that Tehran remained willing to mediate to end hostilities.

A Saudi-led military coalition said it had intercepted three drones, two cruise missiles over the Red Sea and a ballistic missile near Yanbu.

Meanwhile, two missiles landed within Aden airport’s perimeter in Yemen, with no casualties reported, a day after a Houthi attack on the presidential palace killed five people and injured 16. by @pakobserver

New White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia acknowledged on Thursday that she had failed the bar exam, a prerequisite for practising law in the United States, as her credentials face scrutiny.

Zacharia has described herself as a lawyer during television appearances and on social media, and listed herself as general counsel of a California-based conservative nonprofit.

But the legal credentials of the press secretary, who President Donald Trump appointed last week, were called into question after she gave an inconclusive answer about where she had passed the bar exam. by @pakobserver

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, condemning recent Houthi attacks that reportedly killed and injured civilians, including Pakistani nationals.

During a meeting with newly appointed Saudi Ambassador Dr Rajeh Tami Albugamy, Shehbaz said bilateral relations had made remarkable progress in recent years and pledged to strengthen cooperation across various sectors.

The premier described the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement and the Makkah Joint Defence Alliance as historic milestones reflecting the two countries’ shared commitment to regional peace and security.

He also thanked the Saudi leadership for its longstanding economic and financial assistance to Pakistan and assured the ambassador of Islamabad’s full cooperation in further strengthening bilateral ties. by @pakobserver
