Last Saturday at Soma, we opened the mats for The Celebration of Hakaraia Wilson.

Striking and grappling, just an open invitation to anyone who wanted to move. That was always the spirit he carried, generous with his time, easy to be around, always ready to roll with whoever stepped on the mats.

Seeing this room full, full of people who trained with him, learned from him, or just loved having him around, said more than any post could. Grateful doesn’t even cover it.

This Saturday come for a day in celebrating Hakaraia Wilson, and join us in an open striking sparring at 1030am, grappling sparring at 1130am and a Balinese blessing at 130pm.

Everyone is welcome and the doors are open for all, as we spend the day with Hakaraia's family in a morn of Martial Arts. That's something we know he would want, for all of us to come together for the love of Martial Arts.

So join us

✅ 1030am Striking Sparring

✅ 1130am Grappling/jiujitsu sparring

✅ 130pm Piodalan (Balinese Blessing Ceremony) followed by shared lunch

Bahadur means "brave" or "heroic" in English. In Nepal, it translates to बहादुर, meaning courageous or valiant. Historically rooted in the Mongolian word baghatur, it is commonly used as an honorific title, a middle name, or a given name to signify courage and martial honor.

@zackiusbennett was meant to be fighting this weekend in Vietnam, but after his opponent withdrew ln Sunday we just keep our head down and stay ready for the next one.

That's one of the reasons that he embodies the title 'Bahadur'. Never loud or brash, just up to take on any big challenges that come his way.

Last week we sparred.
We rolled.
We moved in rhythm with the islands,
in the shadow of someone who gave everything.

Every jab, every choke, every slip — for Hakaraia.

“Moce mada… noqu rarawa dina”

Farewell now… my deep sorrow.

This mat remembers. This ring holds silence.
But our movement speaks for you.

Culture was a big part of @hakaraiawilson

He wore his puhoro and tamoko proudly, and spoke te reo Maori beautifully.

So last Saturday we honored both him and his family with a Balinese Mecaru, to bring balance and alignment back into our space here at Soma. Biiiig ceremony with so many of our Indonesian and International Soma Family.

We will always hold him in our hearts, and such we will be doing a special memorial weekend with him every year here in Bali, around this time. taken in SOMA FIGHT CLUB by @paksta9198

Now that we're settled in back home, we'd like to take the time to send a huge mihi firstly to Mike @thefighterscoach for putting on such an awesome event in memory of Hakaraia. Thank you for everything you do for us when we come and visit, it gets harder and harder to leave! A lot of gyms say they're a family but because of you Mike it really is like an extension of our whānau. Don't know if you know it yet but you're stuck with us now 🤣 so once again he mihi nunui no te ngakau e tangi nei.

Thank you also to the @somafightclub team for the hospitality and putting on a special day we'll never forget, the Mackey/Huriwai and ROA Whanau for coming over from Thailand and making the day feel more like home especially with that fry bread 😉, Bella & Steph for the delicious kai and always making us feel welcome, Freddie for always looking after Paki and the crew and the beautiful gift of your East Timor colours, to the boys @zackiusbennett , @ozremihana and @james.whiting for looking after the boys and sharing your spots and stories of Haks, to the rest of the Soma fight crew for making our time there feel like we're training at home with family as opposed to just visiting another gym.

Lastly, Thank you to our crew back home for looking after and running the gym while we were away 🖤
