What an amazing runcation in Washington DC! The Marine Corps Marathon has been on my list for years, and I finally got to experience what all the love is about. MCM is my 34th marathon and it has now earned its place in my top 3 most favorite races of all time.

It's as organzied as an international marathon and the swag is next level, but that isn't even what makes it so special. It's the entire vibe on that amazingly crowded course! This race has a level of intensity that I've not experienced on many courses. The crowds were nonstop wild and crazy making every mile so exciting and overwhelming, I turned off my music because I couldn't hear it anyway.

Then there is the Blue Mile - a one mile stretch honoring American military service members. It was reverent and powerful, the only sound I heard was the rythmnic sounds of our feet almost as if we were moving in unison. If you are wondering if I cried, yes damn it I did. It was that powerful. I crossed the finish line at Marine Corps War Memorial in 4:14:53.

The following photo dump is all the places we visited and experienced, some of the food we ate, and the 60,000 strong free punk concert we stumbled upon near the Washington Monument. This was my children's and my first time in DC and my mom's 2nd or 3rd.

We fell in love and can't wait to go back.

Some of the photos include:

I finally conquered the St. George Marathon! Or did I? That damn course was deceptively difficult! My training for this event didn’t allow for much downhill training (knee injury) so I knew it would be tough but I hoped I would be able to power through. By mile three, my quads were already on fire and after mile 13 I stopped at every aid station to drench my quads in Icy Hot. It worked, but I developed an allergic reaction to it by mile 20. I crossed the finish line with my mom, aunt and uncle cheering me across in 4:06:18. I waited over 13 years to run STG and it was everything I thought it would be. They even had ice cream and soda at the finish line!

Monday before we headed home, we drove to Zion to walk around (and so I could plot a trip to hike The Narrows & Angels Landing in the future). I’d woken up with a raw throat and tried to convince myself that it was the hotel air conditioner, but I knew better. I was almost home before the fever and chills hit, but at least it was AFTER the race, and BEFORE my next race in 3 weeks.

Today, I’m 7 years sober. Like this race, getting here wasn’t easy and sometimes it hurt like hell, but I’ve just crossed two finish lines. I’m super grateful, I wouldn’t still be doing this if I were still drinking. That much I know for sure. And Swig's dirty soda tastes way better anyway. Hahaha by @palmerella53

Leona Divide Trail Races Complete! Congrats to everyone & thank you to the volunteers for a great experience! 💚🩵

I signed up for this event months ago, positive all my nagging overuse injuries would be healed. Unfortunately things don't always go as planned. I dropped from the 100k to the 50 miler, still uncertain if I'd finish. I was averaging less than 20 running miles a week in training. Yikes! 😳

Luckily, we had super lenient cut offs thanks to the 100 mile race, & I was blessed to have Jackie to power hike with for the entire race so I decided to work with what I did have - a lot of endurance training.

We turned Leona into our own little trail party & hobbled to the finish line around 3:30 am 21 hours later!

Grateful I stayed the course & finished no matter what. I don't recommend under 20 miles a week of training for an ultra - EVER, but this time it got me to the finish line. Off to heal this knee for real now. Down but not out! 😂👏

PS: I'm still talking about those grilled cheese sandwiches at Bouquet Canyon Aid Station. They were the best! You all rule!🥪 And, those adorable crocheted potatoes! 🥔 🤎 by @palmerella53

Jackie and I finally set out to explore Mount Pacifico from Chilao this Saturday. The original plan was a mellow 13-mile hike that included Mount Hillyer but our plans had other plans. 😂 We got a late start at 11:30 AM, missed a turn, and it turned into another 20-mile adventure instead.

We took our time, thanks to some irritable rattle snakes, and stopped at Mount Pacifico Campground to dine on Nerds Gummy Clusters, melted Cadbury eggs, and sandwiches while soaking in the incredible views.

This section of Angeles National Forest is absolutely stunning and worth the late start for the incredible sunset. I've fallen in love with night hikes!

So glad we finally made it to Mount Pacifico! 🌄🏕️

Westfork National Scenic Bikeway! 🏃‍♀️🚴‍♀️

I was looking for something different and easy on the knee. This 14 miler was the perfect mix of road running with trail vibes. Other than making a few friends along the way, I had the whole road to myself. It was beautiful! 🌅☀️

I've heard it's crazy crowded on the weekends so try and enjoy it on a weekday if you're interested.

PS you can leave your kids along the river and make them catch some rainbow trout for dinner! 🐠 😂 by @palmerella53

We horsed around on our lunch hour today at Cal Poly & met baby Ringo. He's one week old! 🥹 by @palmerella53
