Calling all potters in Bangkok! This mesmerizing experience will get you hooked into this method of making pottery ✨ In this course you will be learning and practicing the art of wheel throwing; from centering, pulling up and out the clay and shaping your pieces. My go-to fix for soft clay :) This one tried to dance but we don’t do uncontrolled dancing here! 🙅🏻‍♂️I've had quite a few people ask if I offer private lessons, so I'm happy to say that I'm now teaching 1-to-1 coaching sessions at @palmpotterystudio in Bangkok for the next few months while I’m based here. 🤍Being largely self-taught, I know first-hand how frustrating throwing can be (and feeling stuck). I've made almost every mistake imaginable at the wheel and spent years figuring out how to solve them on my own. In a way, that’s become one of my biggest strengths as a teacher. I can quickly spot what’s causing an issue because I’ve been through many of the same hurdles myself.Having taught thousands of students at Singapore's busiest pottery studio, as well as potters of all skill levels through workshops and private lessons, I've learned that no two students struggle in quite the same way.People develop habits differently, encounter different obstacles, and absorb information in their own way. Moreover, the same problem can have completely different causes, and I found understanding how someone thinks and approaches the clay is often just as important as the technique itself.I’ve also been grateful to have students visit me from across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America! 🙏🏼😊My approach is very personal and tailored to where you're at. Instead of following a strict lesson structure, I’ll observe how you throw, demonstrate where needed, and help diagnose habits that may be holding you back. Whether you're working on centering, pulling taller, improving consistency, refining forms, or learning more advanced techniques, we’ll focus on what will help you progress most.More than anything, I'd love to help you understand what the clay is doing and why! Comment “CLAY” and I’ll send you all the details.Summer holiday panic, day 1, officially sorted.I almost didn’t book a pottery class for a Sasa. Figured it’d be too hard, too messy, too much. Wrong on the first two. Very right on the messy part, and that turned out to be the whole point. The dirtier her hands got, the happier she was.😅Here’s why this place specifically and not the usual mall craft corner. They cap it at 4 people, so we weren’t elbowing past a crowd. We each got a real wheel (actual throwing, not painting a ready made mug). And we had our own teacher start to finish who took Sasa from zero. She made a bowl spin. She made a tiny dog for her ramen bowl, because obviously. Then we painted, waited about 2 weeks for firing and glaze, and that last photo is what came home.
