The prettiest plate of food I’ve made in a minute. All local or homegrown (or foraged in the case of the chanterelles) and just so summery. #hamptonsfood by @pam_krauss
It’s chanterelle season! Spotted a great patch while out walking the dog (don’t worry, my pal @eugeniagbone verified my ID) and harvested them all. Cooked up with fresh corn and zucchini (plus Gena’s minty green beans) they made the perfect summer supper with a simple chicken thigh. by @pam_krauss
As someone who writes and edits recipe headnotes for a living, I know that “crispy” and “cheesy” or “spicy” are the descriptors that really sell a dish. For me, at least these days, it’s “broth.” Maybe it’s the endless winter we’re mired in, or maybe I just like eating with a spoon, but these Lion’s Head meatballs really hit the spot today. by @pam_krauss
Moving out east full time has been an adjustment. Obviously there is so much to love out here but there is a lot I miss about living in NYC and Brooklyn in particular. On this first night of Lunar New Year I am really lamenting the lack of decent Asian food options out here, something I took for granted in the city and took advantage of often. Tonight I took a stab at beef pan-fried noodles and wasn’t mad at the results. by @pam_krauss
I don’t know what it’s like where you are but here in NY it is cold. Like really, really cold. Perfect excuse to splurge on veal shanks and fill the house with the smell of simmering osso buco. Definitely one of my favorite things. by @pam_krauss
Perks of being (semi) retired — eat what you want, when you want. Breakfast for dinner for breakfast on a random Monday morning (if 10:30 even counts as breakfast). by @pam_krauss
Was craving the white borscht from Euro Deli in Riverhead but they only have it on Thursdays so I tried recreating it myself. I think I did a pretty good job! The chunks of hard boiled egg make it so cozy somehow. Perfect thing for this chilly fall day after an overindulgent evening with @dariennesutton and @sunhe_inthehamptons by @pam_krauss
Happy pub day to @giadadelaurentiis, all-around superhero and kitchen goddess. I loved working on Super-Italian and so many of the recipes have become staples in my house. If you’re ready to look at “healthy cooking” a whole new and incredibly delicious way, buy this book immediately! by @pam_krauss
Happy Halloween! Back in the day I really went all out on the Halloween costumes I made for the girls. It took hours and hours, no patterns, just channeling all the sewing knowledge I picked up in high school home ec. Phoebe, of course, just wanted to be a princess — but I thought her Dracula was one of my finest efforts. There is even a gold lame jewel encrusted Maltese Cross under that cape! And Maya’s Cleo — perfection. by @pam_krauss
Just sent in my ballot! I think my mother would have been tickled to know I used one of her personalized pens — her annual holiday gift to the staff members at @pennswoodvillage — to vote for the first female US president. She would have been thrilled to do the same. by @pam_krauss
A very happy on-sale day to my dear buddy Eugenia Bone, whose latest book will inform, entertain, and intrigue any of the mushroom curious folks out there (and really, isn’t that most of us?). We’ve done cookbooks together, natural science books together, but nothing quite like this one. It’s a fun, fast read that will help you evaluate for yourself where the science ends and the hype begins and introduce you to true characters along the way. by @pam_krauss
