We are absolutely devastated to inform you about the passing of our dearest Pearl. Pearl was as much a part of this community as Alissa and I, both directly and indirectly. She was our purpose and our reason, not only in life, but also for the work we’ve done through the majority of Pancakes & Protein Shakes existence. In her 6 years with us, she has met more people, traveled to more places, and eaten better than most humans ever will. Inversely, she has given us more love, more peace, more laughs, & more memories than we could have ever given her. That dog is our soul. Personally to me, she was the entirety of everything I have ever loved in my entire life bundled into a 4 legged silky smooth being.Pearl had a very rare high grade aggressive mammary cancer that made itself known in February. After an extensive surgery in the first days of March, she was placed on chemo. In just 2 short weeks that followed, the cancer had not only returned, but spread rapidly. We were directed to take her off chemo. Fast forward a couple weeks, we found ourselves at home, with the assistance of Lap of Love, walking Pearl home. Pearl passed peacefully & with grace at home with literally every square inch of her body being wrapped in our arms. It was a bright and gorgeous Thursday morning on the first of May. We’d like to thank all the local businesses, artists, creators, butchers (especially you), breweries , coffee shops, restaurants etc that have ever had a part in Pearl’s life. There are a TON of you. We can’t thank our primary enough (the Anamedic) & Pase. Absolute class acts all around. From regular checkups, to testing, to surgery, to oncology & beyond. Lastly, thank you to everybody who comes out to Pearl’s Pale Ale release parties at Attic Brewing Company. It means more than you’ll ever know. Please allow us some time to regain our bearings & as we do, we will surly be reporting back with a way to help us continue Pearl’s legacy. $30,000 for Year 30. With the help of our latest fundraiser, WE have raised $30k ($30,080) in just three short years, and I needed to thank each and every single one of you. Thank you for always sticking by our side. Thank you for always being open & willing to lend a helping hand to causes that have been extremely important to us. It truly means the world. We are going on (just under) 10 years of Pancakes and Protein Shakes (3 years of fundraising), and never did I ever think it was going to turn into this. I always longed for a feeling of community since moving down to Philly. I longed for a feeling of brotherhood/sisterhood, a feeling of love & realness, and a feeling of togetherness. With your help over the years, I’d say we were able to create that AND some. Pancakes turned into a hyper - niche thing driven by 2 main goals: to support the hell out of all things local, and make this place better than it was before Alissa and I showed up. It warms my heart that everybody comes together & makes that dream happen time and time again. So for that, we thank you. As far as what’s next? I’m not sure. We have some things down the pipeline that we are looking forward to doing with all of you, but until then, I’ll leave you with a line from the closing scene of the greatest movie of all time: “Where we go from here is a choice I leave to you.”#THEpafoodie #philly by @pancakes.and.protein.shakes

I want to use this video as a platform to thank all of you for the endless support over the years. Thank YOU for all of the contributions, the donations, the interactions, and the dedication to supporting all things local. Pancakes and Protein Shakes was founded on love, togetherness, and supporting local businesses, and we are forever grateful for all of you who spread those same principles through the facilitation of this page. To us, you are all inspirational & admirable with your willingness to give, your selflessness when called upon by us to help a cause, and just for the overall love you share back with us. One of the best gym experiences I’ve ever had in my life. They don’t make em like this anymore. They can’t. This place really blew me away. It bro ugh back memories of training at Stern’s, Frenchie’s, Greg Long’s etc. What a relic. 1948 and still kicking. Unreal. Truly unforgettable. HIGHLY recommend. by @pancakes.and.protein.shakes

We are at the end of the road of this chicken ceasar journey and I’m glad I was able to to fit in the ones @pizzarichmond. The wrap is toasted in the oven, the greens and croutons are crunchy, and that buffalo one? that house sauce rocks. Very refreshing wraps. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. by @pancakes.and.protein.shakes

For nearly five decades, @diamondgympro has been more than a place to lift. It’s been a place to reset, as well as a place to get humbled. This place has produced many champions and athletes over the years. Despite its rise in social media, it’s still one of the gnarliest “best kept secret” gyms in the entire country. I’ve been day passing here for over a decade & I can’t recommend this place enough. HIGHLY recommend. by @pancakes.and.protein.shakes

Guys only think of one thing…..and that’s 80s chain driven nautilus pieces….Looking for a hardcore gym in the Philly area that also offers classes and has what seems to be a pretty cool circuit training community?@spartangymsc is your spot. More excellent chicken caesar wraps in Philadelphia. The wraps from @breezysdeli turned out to be great. They have heft & tons of flavor. Soooo many of you recommended this place, and I’m glad that I followed through. Great work. HIGHLY recommend. by @pancakes.and.protein.shakes

Right off the plane and right to @originalcirclesandsquares to see if my findings the other week were true. Bonus corn pie pizza was amazing. As for the chicken caesar wrap? It’s the top dog in Philly thus far. I’ll be done with my caesar tour by the end of this month, but know that they are making one of the best. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (add anchovies) by @pancakes.and.protein.shakes
