Frilufsliv” is a Norwegian concept literally translating to
“open- air living” and more specifically describing an outdoor life that connects with nature.

Before this has you checking
into the nearest five star-plus hotel, staying at the multi
award-winning PAN Treetop Cabins under the attentive care of Christine Mowinckel and her partner Kristian Rostad.

Rising above the towering, ancient pine forest floor
of Finnskogen – The Forest of the Finns –stands PAN’s
architecturally astounding A-frame
connection to nature.

The house that lies tucked away in the forest, secluded and discreet, built from materials from old barns throughout Solør. In the middle of the three-walled house stands a beautiful, inviting hot tub. The fourth wall and the roof? Nature itself 🌳Maybe start with the yoga, and the Hot tub ?Yes please 🧘🏻‍♀️♨️

Some extraordinary things happen in the places you least expect.

Deep in the forests of Finnskogen, Norway, PAN Tretopphytter is a brilliant example of what can happen when people see potential where others might see limitations, and have the courage to turn an idea into something real.

But places like this don’t exist in isolation.

For destinations in rural areas to grow, it takes more than one great idea. It takes people who are willing to see opportunities, create new experiences and build something together. One initiative can put a place on the map. Others can give people more reasons to visit, stay longer and come back.

That’s what makes places like PAN so interesting to me. Not just the architecture or the experience itself, but the people behind it - and the potential they reveal in the places they call home.

I’ve had the privilege of documenting PAN Treetop Cabins through my camera, and seeing my photographs reach audiences far beyond Norway, including through international publications such as Wallpaper*, Glass Magazine and the MICHELIN Guide.

For me, that’s part of the beauty of this work: discovering the people who make things happen, telling their stories, and showing the world what can grow in the places we least expect.

When journalists take the time to really get to know what we’re trying to share, it means so much to us 🌳🍃🍂We’re deeply grateful they make the journey and take the time to find the calm here with us.

It isn’t very hard to fall in love with a country like Norway. Everywhere you go, you’ll find lush greenery, stunning architecture and fjords so beautiful that you cannot believe you exist on the same planet as this marvel of nature.

But travel about two hours north of Oslo to an idyllic town of Flisa, and you will somehow find yourself falling in love with Norway over and over again.

Such is the magic of PAN Treetop Cabins: a remote, design-led retreat in east Norway where you will find no wifi, lush, long trees and a cabin high up in the woods for the most tranquil getaway you can dream of.

Nestled in the vast forest region of Finnskogen in east Norway, deep pine woods, placid lakes, and dramatic landscapes surround PAN’s three, immersive, treetop cabins.

With beautiful Scandinavian design, native wildlife, and rich heritage rooted in ancient folklore, it is an ideal location for one-of-a-kind, off-grid luxury living.

PAN is situated on a small plateau with a rare and spectacular view over the forest, Østerdalen, and the Hedmark highlands. From here, you can take in the vast fields of Hedmark while letting your gaze wander deep into the forest. The perspective from the treetops gives a true sense of freedom 🌳🏔️❄️ Have you booked your trip yet?

Golden fields, deep roots 🌾🌾🌾

Here in Åsnes, the land has always known what to grow. This region is one of Norway’s great breadbaskets, grain and potatoes shaped by generations who understood the soil, the seasons, and the quiet discipline of good farming.

At PAN, we live surrounded by these fields. Every harvest is a reminder of why cultivation matters, not just for what it yields, but for the care, patience, and connection 🌾

In the eastern parts, you have the largest belt of forest in the world. The Taiga, also known as boreal forest or snow forest, is the largest biome on land and covers most of the northern latitude. When entering Finnskogen, you find yourself in the middle of this massive ecological system, and there is no other place in Norway where you can encounter the same unique wildlife, including elk, venison, capercaillie, wolf, bear, lynx and a plethora of other animals.
