Ollie in frontside wallride 🎥: @embabbitt I found this spot in 8th grade. My friends and I had heard stories about “the underground 7”, a stair set hidden somewhere downtown. Finding it became an obsession. One day as we walked up a hill carrying our boards we heard what sounded like skaters echoing in the distance. Could this be the spot we’d been searching for?? We hurried toward the sounds and sure enough, it was. We peered through the chain link into the dim parking garage and saw a pristine seven stair with a very steep rail. The skaters inside were able to open up the gate for us and finally we’d unlocked the legendary spot. The spot had a pretty heavy bust factor so I didn’t really skate it too much after that day. Around 2010 I remember seeing a photo on Facebook of @chrispyturdson by @wes__cunningham . Chris hit the fs wall bash indy yank to flat. At the time wallrides were completely beyond me and I was more blown away by Chris’ handrail onslaught. More recently though I’ve been on the hunt for skatable walls in Portland and I somehow remembered that photo. I was so stoked to make this frontside wallride… it took probably 25 minutes of just standing at the top and rolling up before I could get myself to jump on, only to get kicked out after maybe 15-20 tries. We came back a couple days later and I was so nervous about getting kicked out again because I’d been losing sleep over this trick. Luckily we were able to sneak in and get it within maybe 10-15 more tries. Thanks Mike for filming and Chris for the inspiration. ✨ by @panther_randall

Springtime skate snippets ✨🌱🌻 A note about filming tricks: Many of my skate sessions occur without any filming at all. Sometimes it’s better just to skate and be in the moment- whether it’s practicing new stuff, flowing jazz improv style, getting silly, tinkering around on flat, or a fired up session feeding off the homies. Reasons that I’ll film a trick are 1. It’s something I’ve been working towards or a new idea I’m excited about. 2. It’s something difficult or scary that I will rarely do again. 3. I’m feeling stagnant, bored, or I’m having trouble committing so I use the selfie camera as a motivator. 4. I’m curious to see how a trick looks or I want to break down my skating and analyze frame by frame. 5. I kinda think of this platform as a scrapbook of my skating over the years and it’s always fun to add another trick and another memory. 6. Seeing friends and strangers skating on here can really motivate and influence me, so it feels good to pass the stoke right back. by @panther_randall
