Scenes from my video project with @issimiofficial featuring the Mercedes 190E EVO II from early this year.

Still have to pinch myself to believe I got to spend two days with this car. It lived up to all my wildest expectations and more. I would, without hesitation, give my left testi to be Klaus Ludwig and the other 190 drivers ripping around in DTM at the time…What. A. Machine.

Earlier this year, my good friend @crocgt4 passed away.

A short time later, @joss_lumens , who now owns Phil’s Porsche Cayman GT4, invited me on a road trip to Gualala to visit Alex from Sharkwerks and Ralph, two of Phil’s closest friends.

I’d heard about Ralph for years. At 80 years old, he was something of a legend in the Porsche community. He lived miles from the nearest town, owned a 997.1 GT3 and GT3 RS, and welcomed Kevin and me into the home he built with his own two hands.

I couldn’t help but wonder: why did someone like Ralph choose to live so far from everything?

I quickly learned that Ralph was a builder in every sense of the word. He helped build much of Sea Ranch along California’s northern coast, and his connection to Porsche stretched back even further. As a young teenager in the 1950s, he wandered into Vasek Polak’s Porsche dealership, eventually earning a place alongside Vasek himself and accompanying him to races.

Listening to Ralph, I left with many ideas for future films. I assumed there would be another visit. Another conversation. Another drive. Another chance to tell his story.

There wasn’t.

Just a month later, while I was on vacation, Ralph passed away.

It’s strange how easily we surrender to the rhythm of tomorrow. We postpone conversations, put off ideas, and convince ourselves there will always be another chance because everyday life quietly teaches us to believe there will be.

But tomorrow isn’t promised.

Perhaps that’s one of the quiet paradoxes of being human. We have to believe the future is waiting for us. Without that belief, it would be difficult to make plans, pursue ambitions, or even get out of bed each morning. That optimism isn’t foolish; it’s part of what allows us to keep moving forward.

I’m grateful I made that trip.

I never filmed the documentary I imagined making with Ralph, but I did get to spend time with him. I heard his stories firsthand. I walked through the home he built with his own hands. I watched him recount memories that stretched from Vasek Polak’s workshop to the rugged coastline he helped shape.

Looking back, that was enough.

Had a blast @fat.icerace in Big Sky this past weekend. While the ice, the noise, and the sideways moments continued to replay in my head on the flight home, what really stuck with me was the people. Thanks for the shared stories, laughs, and coffees in the cold, but most of all—the shared obsession.

The cars are the excuse. The friendships are the reasons.

For those of you looking to break into the car industry, this episode is a must-watch.

In Car Tales Episode 3, we follow Ethan, @citoscamera a twenty-year-old apprentice working at a classic car restoration shop located south of San Francisco. @thepitstopautomotive is run by Raffi Najjarian, and since its inception in 1990, Raffi has completed many award-winning restoration projects that have been displayed at events such as Pebble Beach Concours and Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

Ethan spent his childhood admiring the very cars he gets to work on today, learning the tools of the trade at The Pit Stop. One day at work, he stumbled upon a BMW E36 M3 that he knew he had to make his own.
