We all had an AWESOME time sledding with Aunt Jackie and Alex on our last trip to New York. It is unbelievable to watch our little babies grow and do new things. Ray even went down by himself! by @papa_copp

Setting up for a guided climbing session, we need to protect against the most dangerous element: the first time climber. The video makes it sound like I’m talking about changing the actual established bolt line, but what I’m actually talking about is changing our set up for the day. Even if it is unlikely that a climber would pull the rocks off, it would be a high-consequence accident.

Safety doesn’t happen by accident.

Happy V-day to the sweetest soul I’ve ever known. So glad to be laughing, dancing, tickling, and whispering our way through parenthood together. ❤️ I love you, Lacy! @desertbellestudio by @papa_copp

It has been 3 years since Christian passed away; and today, like many days, this great man is present with me in my heart.

Overwhelmingly, I am happy that we were so close and spent so much time together, and I am sad that my past cannot be lived again. I fear the thought of Christian’s accident, as I also fear my own death. by @papa_copp

How to shoot a bearing using a map and compass. These are some simple, introductory exercises I do with my mentees to increase their wilderness navigation and mountain sense. Do you have experience navigating like this? Most people understand the theory but can’t execute in real situations.

Don’t fall for traps! There are no rules in rock climbing, guidebooks only give suggestions, and true trad climbing lets you transcend fixed equipment.
