Everyone who knows me, knows I love to teach boys. Not that I don't like to teach girls, but I prefer boys. I prefer boys because from the very beginning, they are perceived to be wild, hyper, slower in learning, and defiant. I think the opposite. I think that they are exploratory, calculated with their movements, analytical with their thoughts, and strong in their opinions.
I choose to fill my classroom up with boys because I am a nurturer. I want to help give them a foundation of love and a positive sense of themselves.
With all that is going on in the world today and the underline issues that remain constant throughout the years, maybe if others who view them as negative can look at them the way I do. Little boys. Little boys who show that they have muscles like their Daddy. Little boys who can dance and be silly like Michael Jackson. Little boys who think deeply and protect girls and women. Little boys who overcome their speech impediment to win overall speech at a Black History program.
The black men that are viewed to be a threat to society were all little boys. After seeing my boys, are they a threat?
