When I say that the experience I provide for you embodies who I am with my years of expertise working with any age range and group size, I truly mean it. I can work quickly and efficiently without forced posing and can work with people of all types and backgrounds. When we work together and this is how you feel afterwards- that’s EVERYTHING to me. I don’t offer mini sessions. Am I crazy? Nope, I don’t think so. Connections with people and taking my time to get to know each and every one of you is incredibly important. While we live in a society where literally everything is all about instant gratification and the next best thing….. I don’t know about you, but I want to give you a real experience while you are here on Kauai. I want you to be able to slow down and relax. I want you to soak in the moments with your family while you are fully present in the moment with them. Your portraits are more than the holiday card image. It’s about who you are as a whole and those milestones that are important. The gaps in their little smiles because they lost their two front teeth. The family photo before your baby goes to college. The twinkle in your five year old’s eyes the first time they get to play in the ocean. This is what I promise to capture for you. And guess what? It’s not clean or perfect, but the end result IS! WHOAAAAAA 🤯 You guys. I was curious so I took a peek & I realized this morning that I’ve photographed well over 600 families over the past few years alone. This got me thinking about experience as a whole. Who you hire really matters. Like A LOT. The way you feel before, during, and after your session matters more than anything. Having a truly catered to you approach from the beginning with the full intention of having an authentic ,fun, relaxed, easy, enjoyable experience is everything I strive for (and of course a gallery that you’re head over heels in love with too). And I’ll do it for you every single time (no matter how many years I get to see you) because you and your family in all of its messiness and chaos is what makes for the best damn pictures. Bring on the wild kids, the no napped off their schedule kids, the grouchy partners and stubborn grandparents. Bring me the teenagers who are full of sass. Spent some time up at @lydgatefarms documenting how the hives are doing after the storm (and the farm as well) & what they will be doing to prepare for this next storm, talking with the crew, and learning more about Hawaii’s agricultural industry. Bees are fascinating and it was honestly so cool to do the bee tour they offer now -highly recommend btw ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- The bees eat the pollen and nectar from the flowers and the flowers are all gone due to the hurricane. I hope they will be able to survive on what little is left after Lowell and that new flowers will come back quickly so that further loss doesn’t occur. So many cacao trees have been destroyed as well as the large trees that provide them w the needed shade - so sad to see this amount of destruction. There is a long road ahead filled with a lot of clean up and so much damage and everyone is working so hard to keep everything up and running. I greatly admire the way these guys are holding onto their entire staff by giving away tours to Kama’aina instead of heading directly into layoffs. And the locals have been showing up to support - it’s very heartwarming to see. There are so many local small farmers struggling right now, operations shutting down due to catastrophic damages (I’m so saddened about the loss of the Kauai Shrimp farm), & livelihoods lost. This ripple effect is absolutely devastating, on so many levels for our small businesses, our economy, and for everyone. One of the highlights of yesterday- and honestly there were a lot🫶🏼- was having the opportunity to speak with @repjilltokuda In person & having the chance to tell my story about the big losses my photography business has suffered due to the aftermath of Lowell (and to speak on behalf of our photographer community in general felt good). She told me with confidence and compassion that my business matters and so does our profession. It was so important and needed, (especially as my profession has felt pushed to a level of non importance recently) to be heard by a US representative of our state. Thank you, Jill. There is a lot to say about Kauai right now. So much, in fact, that it feels impossible to sit here and write a caption. The fact is that small businesses are in need of support and are operational in many aspects and we are here waiting for you with open arms and love. There are areas that will need to be avoided for a while until cleanup and repairs can take place and they need and deserve to be carried in love and support as they recover from this storm. Yesterday, I was able to take my daughter outside for an afternoon swim in the ocean and it was beautiful, calm, clean. It was so needed and really helped to clear the mental clutter in my own mind. While Kauai scenery may look and feel different these days (shockingly so in some areas), I think it’s important to remember that Kauai is beautiful in so many ways and no matter where you may end up for your visit in the coming weeks, you will see that beauty- whether in a different scenic landscape, in watching how our communities pull together to support each other, watching how small businesses are doing everything they can to keep their employees working, seeing the creative menus rolling out in restaurants as they do what they’re able to, and watching people simply take care of each other as it’s needed. It’s really special. That being said, I would be honored to photograph you and your ohana when you choose to return. I am here with open arms, smiles, and am accepting bookings from Oct 5th through the end of the year and also into 2027. Travel with Aloha. Travel with respect. Come support our island. Mine (a couple of years ago, but who’s counting?) The world feels crazy and we’re all going through it for real here on Kauai, but my family keeps me grounded. I am beyond thankful for these two and our health, safety, for water, electricity, and our home. I’m slowly getting back to my editing que and have been catching up with a backlog of emails, etc. Hauled the broken trees off the property this morning- what a difference this made in how I can actually function! I just thought I’d post this update so you all know I’m still here. I’m just putting a lot of energy into my community, uplifting our local businesses, the clean up, and doing what I am able to do. ✨ If you’ve been waiting for your final gallery, it’s coming. Aloha everyone. I’m finally feeling able to come up for air to do this check in. I’ve been trying to figure out what the best way would be to uplift my business as my livelihood has been significantly affected by this storm and will be for some time. I’ve decided that I would like to offer anyone who has been asking how to help this route: For any session booked during Sept and Oct I will donate the actual session to anyone in my community who: 1) Has lost all of their photos. 2) No longer has the means to afford the luxury of holiday portraits/their yearly family photos. 3) Those who cannot afford senior pictures for their children let alone the thought of the holidays coming (I so feel you guys on that one!!) Aloha!!! I wanted to thank everyone for your concerns about this approaching hurricane. We all know this is a very close call (and hopefully will continue to stay further west and spare us) and the preparation is well under way for all of us-it’s good we’ve had so much time to get ready for a storm this unpredictable. That being said, I am still working today and tomorrow and the weather has honestly been really nice this whole week! If you have had to rearrange travel plans, I completely understand.
